Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Hi! My name is Pinecone (don’t ask me where that came from). My foster mom says I’m fantastic, but I just do what I do. 🐾 The world is still pretty new to me, so sometimes I get a little startled. But once I know I’m safe, I love to explore. I also like to chase my tail. I’m lucky it’s so long because I WILL catch it someday. I know I’m supposed to go potty outside, but sometimes I just can’t hold it yet! I also know my crate is a safe space, but if I can see you, I’d really rather be with you. I don’t even mind baths. The first time, I wasn’t sure what was happening, so I jumped in to get a better look...and then suddenly I was all wet! I learned how to do these things called steps, and I like to skip the last one on my way down. That's how I roll. My foster mom says I prance around like a baby goat, but I’m not sure I know what a goat is yet. I do know there is no other dog in the oven. I thought there was, but it turns out it was just my reflection. My foster mom could have given me some warning before she opened the oven to prove it, though. I about lost my 💩. So far, I really like humans and dogs of all ages and sizes. The little humans are especially fun! I like being held, and I love being near my people while they do their human stuff. Did you know sending an email can make a whoosh sound? I was a little weirded out by that at first, but I get it now. I’m looking for a family who will help me continue getting to know this big world and teach me all the things I need to know to become the very best boy I can be. Is that you? Batman is a male Mountain Feist/Fox Terrier mix, born about April 2025. He is sweet and loves people. Batman is neutered, healthy, and quite an easy, agreeable young man. He walks on a leash, is happy in his crate for sleeping, and is  potty trained with only some basic support in his new home. He knows how to sit and wait politely for his meals. Say Hi to the happiest and most easily adaptable pup! Beat of My Heart is a jolly and curious puppy who loves to play and to be cuddled (and for some reason, he loves watching tv with you!). He is super treat-motivated, so he learns really quickly -- he already knows how to sit, go to his crate, go to his bed and has made great progress in potty training too. Before getting his food, he knows to sit down and when it's time for bed, all you need to do is open his crate and he goes right into it and sleeps (make sure to add a few teething toys in there just in case he gets bored when he wakes up before you do! He has been socialized around other dogs that we meet during our walks and he is aware of strangers, although he sometimes randomly barks at people walking by us. He also walks extremely well on the leash, which makes him a perfect companion if you also enjoy walks!  Adoption Day: September 19th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–10:30 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt.
