    Meet Champion Mercury - a resilient, joyful soul    This sweet 9 to 12 month old Sheltie/Shepherd mix (with a dash of true Heinz 57 charm) came to us as a stray, with an embedded collar and lead line that required surgery to remove. It's clear he'd been fending for himself for far too long, but despite his tough start, Mercury's spirit never dimmed.   After just 5 weeks in foster care, he's already transformed - gaining weight beautifully (currently 36 pounds and still filling out), and healing wonderfully, Underneath it all is the most gorgeous, plush coat that begs for gentle pets.   Mercury is:   House trained    Leash-trained and eager for walks    Loves to run, fetch, and play with endless enthusiasm    Gets along wonderfully with children, all people, big dogs, small dogs, and even cats   What makes him truly special is his heart - this affectionate, happy boy showers everyone with love, tail wags, and gentle leans, as if he's making up for lost time.
