Story
Astro was born in the Out of the Woods program on September 22, 2025. He is approaching 10 months old and weighs right at 80 pounds. We expect him to get some bigger as he ages, possibly topping out at but we do feel most of his growth has already happened. We believe he will top out around 90 pounds. He was adopted as a tiny little guy, but due to unforeseen circumstances he has found himself back in our program. We have done DNA on one of his brothers and have found him to be a mix of mastiff, German Shepherd, Collie, Pit, and his mother looked to be a purebred Flat Coated Retriever. We were pretty sure there had to be some Catahoula or Great Dane or Aussie in the mix with his merle coat, but nothing came up in the DNA showing those breeds, but he got those spots from somebody and we are guessing the daddy because mom is a completely black beauty! Astro is very good with small children and has been living in a home with two little girls who are 2 and 5 years. He is also good with men and woman and we consider him to be laid back, calm and medium energy. He will need some training however, as he just has no idea of his size. When he first came back to his foster home, he was a wild child, probably because he just didn't have a clue what was going on. But after only a few days, he has calmed down and is a nice, polite boy. He is a good watch dog with a deep voice but he has not shown any aggressive tendencies, but will sound the alarm when something is amiss. Astro works okay on leash and is up to date on his vetting, heartworm negative and on preventative for heartworms, fleas and ticks. One issue Astro does have is he HATES getting in the car. With a dog this size, that can be a problem. Once in the car, he's fine, but getting him in has been challenging. We are going to start immediately working on this ... bacon may be involved! He's definitely food motivated. :) But the loading up in the car has really been his only issue. If you are looking for a young, large-breed boy who is absolutely stunning, this may be your guy! At ten-months old, all the tough part has been done for you, the potty training, crate training and leash training is all done and his social skills training began when he was just one day old.
