Story
Jethro was born in the Out of the Woods program on September 22, 2025. He is approaching 10 months old and weighs right at 80 pounds. We expect him to get some bigger as he ages, possibly topping out at 90-ish, but we do feel most of his growth has already happened. He was adopted as a tiny little guy, but due to unforeseen circumstances he has found himself back in our program. We have done DNA on one of his brothers and the results were a mix of mastiff, German Shepherd, Collie, Pit, and his mother looked to be a purebred, almost solid black, Flat Coated Retriever. We thought we would bind some Catahoula, Great Dane or Aussie in the mix with that merle coat, but no. Jethro, has not been trained all that well in his home, and we are working hard to teach this boy some manners. He's not mean at all, but at 80 pounds, you need manners! He does not seem to understand that jumping up is a bad thing. If you are sitting on the deck, he wants to crawl up in your lap. We have begun working with him on leash training and basic obedience and he's already come such a long way! Another thing we believe is causing him to be so "outgoing" is he currently lives with 9 other foster brothers and sisters and he doesn't get the attention he wants and also deserves, so he horns his way to the front of the line! When you are built like a tank, it's not a problem! We do have some good news though, he is crate trained. :)One more issue he has is riding in the car. We are working on that too. He's GREAT once in the car ... no drooling or vomiting, but getting him in the car has been a challenge and again, at 80 pounds, it's not so easy to just pick him up and put him in the car. A fun thing about Jethro is he loves playing with the water hose and splashing in a kiddie pool. He is a great playmate for another dog in your home and although we don't know about cats, we would not expect any issues with cats. Even though he's big, he's gentle when playing with others. He is a good watch dog with a deep voice but he has not shown any aggressive tendencies, but will sound the alarm when something is amiss. Jethro works pretty good on leash and is currently getting daily walks and is up to date on his vetting, heartworm negative and on preventative for heartworms, fleas and ticks. If you are looking for a young, large-breed boy who is absolutely stunning, this may be your guy! At ten-months old, all the tough part has been done for you, the potty training, crate training and leash training is all done and his social skills training began when he was just one day old.
