Story
Bracken is young and sweet. He is basically a puppy still, so he has things to learn. But he gets along well with other dogs and is very smart. He will learn very quickly. Bracken is approx. 1 yr old and weighs 54 lbs. and he is in good health. He is up to date on his vaccinations and is microchipped. Upon adoption he will also have a neuter certificate to be used locally that covers the cost.

Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Story
We rescued Onyx as a 2-month-old puppy from a Walmart parking lot. She and her siblings were being given away, and we felt pulled to her. She was born on 12/02/2024. She is a Goldador. Her mother was a registered Golden Retriever and the father was a Labrador. She is scheduled for a spay on 01/05/2026 and will be brought current on all shots at that time. She will not be available until after her spay. We have a profoundly autistic child and never anticipated there would be a species-specific allergy to Onyx for this child. Onyx has lived with a cat and another small dog. She is crate trained, learning to be leash trained, and rides well in a vehicle. She lives in a single-parent home with three children—I am trying to find a home for her that will love her to pieces—and help give her her best life. This has not been an easy choice, and I do feel embarrassed. She has a proper crate, manners & has been on Science Diet her entire time with me.
