Story
TEDDY 🖤 This adorable guy is Teddy. Located in BRANTFORD, ON Weight: He is approximately 50 lbs. Good with dogs: Teddy ignores small dogs and likes to wrestle with bigger dogs. Teddy does best with submissive dogs or dogs that can recognize when he has had enough of playing. He would do best as an only pet. Good with cats: No Good with kids: Teddy would do best in a home without children. Housetrained: In progress. Crate Trained: Yes Leash Trained: Teddy is great on the leash. He requires the occasional reminder not to pull but responds very quickly to corrections. He knows basic commands like sit and down. He knows to stay until he is told “free”. As well he knows “place”. Energy level: High Health Concerns: None HW status: Negative Spay/neutered?: Yes Tell us about this dog: Teddy is a great dog but he is not for first time dog owners. He is extremely lovable and is always happy to see you. He has a few quirks worth noting. First off, he has springs as feet! This boy can jump. He would make an excellent agility or watersport competitor. Secondly, when he wags has tail his entire backend moves - he has a wiggly butt. It is absolutely adorable. Finally, Teddy has anxiety and reactivity. Teddy's foster parents have attended private training lessons and report that he is learning appropriate means of dealing with his anxiety and reactivity. He wants to please and is a quick learner. On going training would be extremely beneficial to both Teddy and his future adopters to help them both bond and understand each other's needs and expectations. Story
Meet The Sea and her Mysteries! The Sea and her Mysteries is as old as time... but in actuality is a 1-year-7-month-old flat coated Black Retriever. Since her stay with us, The Sea and her Mysteries has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, health-checked, given a rabies vaccine and her core vaccines including Intranasal Bordetella. The Sea and her Mysteries has also been to our Board and Train classes for additional training with a professional instructor. The Sea and her Mysteries will require an experienced dog owner who can continue to work with her directly and give her ongoing training. She is really strong on a leash but with a good owner and ongoing attention, The Sea and her Mysteries will thrive in her new forever home!!We would encourage that The Sea and her Mysteries be the only dog in the home.If you are interested in The Sea and her Mysteries, please call our East region shelter at (416) 338-PAWS (7297) for further information. We are open Monday to Sunday 10:30AM to 6:30PM.Thank you for looking!!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.VENUS hails from Cat Lake and came south with her 6 puppies in search of a better life. She’s been spayed, vaccinated including her rabies, microchipped and been given a clean bill of health by her vet. We’ve just made an educated guess as to her breeds as unfortunately we have no info on her parentage. She’s a very gentle loving girl who was a wonderful nurturing mum to her puppies. However, she definitely has an energetic side to her too especially when it comes to playing outside.  VENUS is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it at night and will also go in it during the day for a nap. She’s a true northern girl as she has lots of energy for running around and playing outside  in the yard with the two resident dogs but when she comes inside the home, she relaxes quietly on her dog bed where she enjoys chewing on her bone or rubber toys. She’s very good with eating around the other dogs in the home and will sit calmly for her food or treats.  VENUS loves to be around people and to have reassurance that she’s loved. She’ll snuggle with you on the couch or lay right beside your feet. For this reason she would best suit having someone home for a good part of the day with her. She loves going on walks but would benefit from some formal leash training as if she gets excited she will pull. She has never met a cat so we wouldn’t recommend her being in a home with one. She has met children and was very good with them and we’re recommending they should be aged 6 and up and should have large breed dog experience. Her ideal family would be one that loves the outdoors as much as she does and enjoys walking and hiking on the trails too. She travels really well in a vehicle and would always be up for a road trip that leads to an adventure or two. She is housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside to use the bathroom. If you would like to meet VENUS then please put in an adoption application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 9:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROMEO hails from CAT LAKE in Northern Ontario and he came south with his mum and 5 siblings to find his forever home. His mum is a Labrador Retriever/Gt Pyrenees mix and weighs 60lbs but his dad is unknown. The breed mix we have him listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess as we really have no way of knowing. He’s had his first and second sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by our vet. His nick name is Chunk due to being the biggest in the litter. He’s a happy-go-lucky, confident and fun loving guy who loves nothing better than giving out puppy kisses and cuddling with you.  ROMEO is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it through the night and will also take his naps in there during the day. His house training is going well and he has very few accidents in the house now and when taken out for a bathroom break he will usually go. He’s doing well on his leash and really enjoys going on walks. He’s a well socialized energetic puppy who loves to play with with all sorts of toys and play chase with the resident dogs in his foster home. He would love to find a family who will take him on walks, hikes and basically enjoy being outside with him. He does okay in a vehicle but it’s not his favourite place to be and a couple of times he’s been in one he’s had an upset tummy. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a monitored introduction they should get along okay. Children should be aged 6 and up and he does require a fenced-in yard. Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his potential adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and will be performed at the Barrie SPCA by the time he’s 8 months of age or reaches 60lbs (whichever comes first.) We also need you to be in agreement with this in order to adopt him.  If you would like to meet ROMEO then please submit the adoption application to do so. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 9:35 pm

Golden Retriever German Shepherd Dog

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.THACKERY came from Slate Lake which is a Northern Ontario community and he came south in search of his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed a healthy boy. We’ve been told one of his parents was a Golden Retriever but no information on what breed the other parent could be. At a guess though, we think possibly a German Shepherd. Seeing as we don’t know both parents the size he’ll grow to be is also a guess but seeing as he’s just on a year old, chances are he’ll not grow much bigger. THACKERY is crate trained and sleeps quietly in there through the night and he’s also housetrained and will let you know when he has to go outside for his bathroom break. He loves to go on walks but would benefit from some leash training so he understands what’s expected of him when leash walking. He’s well socialized with other dogs and currently being fostered with 2 resident dogs and they all get along very well. Other dogs also come over to the house for visits so lots of doggie experience for this young man. Seeing as he loves to be with other dogs we would like to see him go to a home that has another one and one who’s a gentle soul just like he is. He loves to play outside in the yard and run around with his friends so a fenced-in yard is required for him. He has met a cat in his foster home and he’s not bothered by him at all but they haven’t actually met face-to-face so we would only recommend a home with a dog savvy cat and the two should only meet under strict supervision. THACKERY is very playful and loving and he loves nothing better than getting attention and having snuggles with his human on the couch. He is a sensitive somewhat anxious boy due to not having had a lot of human interaction but he did get attached to his foster mum pretty quickly. He now wants nothing more than to be with her so we would prefer him to go to a home that has someone who’s around most of the time. The toys he can play with are quite limited as he loves to chew so he would need super strong chewy ones, Nyla bones, deer antlers etc. Due to being a bit anxious he needs to be monitored if he starts to chew on his dog bed or blankets as he has been caught doing that a few times. An experienced dog owner is required for him and a quiet home to suit his sensitive nature. He’s not been exposed to too much noise and he tends to be a bit jumpy because of that. He does know some basic commands like sit, stay and will take his treats “gentle.” He does love his food and eats alongside the other dogs in the home with no problems at all. He hasn’t been exposed to children so we’re recommending they be aged 12 plus and be caring and loving towards dogs. He’s still under a year old and he would definitely benefit from obedience/leash training so please only apply for him if you’re going to be committed to doing this for him.   If THACKERY sounds like the boy for you then please submit an adoption application to meet him. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 9:35 pm
