Story
Foster/Foster to Adopt/Adopt DOB 3/13/22 Dudley was a stray who was not claimed in Chowchilla. Unfortunately he got parvo but was treated and recovered quickly. Dudley is around 6 months, best breed guess is short hound mix. Dudley is sweet but feisty! He loves his foster friends and he is very food motivated. He is just starting his leash training. Dudley is almost housetrained but will still have a few accidents, we are sure he just lived outside previously. He loves to sleep in his humans bed. Dudley is fixed, chipped and fully vaccinated. Story
10/01/26 10:25From the foster:Chance is a somewhat dorky, slightly clumsy, very loving and loveable dog. He has plenty of energy and loves to play, but also enjoys laying around and cuddling. He has very good house manners, plays with his own toys, is totally house-trained. He sleeps through the night and can stay home alone during the day. Although he is more used to having someone around all the time.Chance had a broken hip when we found him, but the UC Davis fracture program treated him and you cannot tell there was ever anything wrong. He loves to run and jump and play. Chance has a foster sister named Golly. Golly is a 7 year old blind Staffordshire. Golly is really comfortable around the house and property, so they spend a lot of time running around on patrol. They get along fine, most of the time Golly ignores Chance, but other times she loves to harass him. Things taking toys and shaking them in his face, or sitting on his head when he is lying on the floor. He loves to make friends (both human and dog), but can be anxious about meeting them at first, especially when they are on leash. He has a dog sitter who comes over and spends the night with him when the family has to go out of town. He’s a little too clumsy to be on his own around little kids, but teenagers are his favorite kind of people.Chance also loves to go on walks and outings, although his favorite walks involve a lot of sniffing, he also likes a nice long hike. We also like to go to the county dog parks. He didn’t seem to have much car experience when we found him, but we’ve been on several all day and overnight trips. He is always ready to jump in the truck.I’ve been fostering for over 7 years and Chance is probably my favorite foster so far. He is eager to please and is very loving. But he does have some challenges we have been trying to work on. He has lot of energy and gets really excited when something good happens. He also is anxious about things happening that he doesn’t understand. If I was better off financially, I would take him to some simple group obedience classes. But if you give him a chance to settle down, he does fine.I think the best home for Chance would be one with multiple people, with or without another dog. My feeling is that having his whole world around one people makes him nervous about losing me. I’ve noticed that he tends to be more confident after he has spent some time with the dog sitter. I think he would be ok with cats, as long as they were properly introduced.******************************************************************03/02/26 18:47 Chance had his FHO surgery on his right hip at UC Davis in November of 2025. He came today for a recheck exam. He has decreased full extension in his right hip but overall is comfortable and able to walk and run fairly well. The foster is not able to adopt Chance at this time. Chance has been on urgent needs rescue for several months. We are updating his needs rescue status to final with a review date of 3/30.*******************************************************************01/16/26This friendly and affectionate dog warms up quickly to new people and enjoys attention, leaning in for pets and affection. He is comfortable with handling, including teeth checks and vaccinations, and responds well to gentle guidance. He would thrive in a loving home where he can get consistent attention, companionship, and positive interaction. This dog (male neutered, ~50 lb) came into the shelter with a limp. X-rays showed that he is close to 1 year old. This dog has been diagnosed with a chronic fracture of the proximal femur at the juncture of the femoral neck and the femoral head (right hip) with aseptic necrosis of the femoral neck. In other words, his right hip joint is broken and compromised. He has muscle atrophy in the right limb from disuse. This chronic injury is painful and requires surgical treatment, typically a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHNO) procedure, to remove the damaged portion of the hip joint. Our very committed foster was able to coordinate surgical repair at UC Davis, which we hope to be completed by early to Mid-November as soon as they are able. Chance will need post-operative rehabilitation and care.Chance also has mild left coxofemoral degenerative joint disease (arthritis in the left hip).

Story
Gentle, sweet, quiet, and playful, Cassie is quite the delightful package. She's a wonderful houseguest in her foster home, with impeccable potty manners and a bark that's reserved for only the rarest of occasions. Fully house-trained, she knows how to use the doggy door, settles beautifully in her crate, and sleeps soundly through the night without a peep. Cassie absolutely loves other dogs and gets along with pups of all shapes and sizes. To her, no dog is a stranger—she's quick to make new friends and wants everyone to be her best buddy. She's the life of the pawty, happily inviting her canine companions to play, romp, and wrestle. She's also wonderful with kids and is always ready to soak up pets, hugs, and affection from her humans. This loving girl never says no to belly rubs or scratches, and she takes treats ever so gently! Cassie enjoys exploring the neighborhood and would benefit from continued leash training as she builds her confidence. With her affectionate personality, easygoing nature, and love for both people and dogs, she'd make a wonderful addition to just about any home. If you’re interested in meeting Cassie, fill out our adoption application at Lucky Dog Rescue | Adoption Application.
