Story
Meet Isabel, a gentle and loving 8-year-old American Foxhound who weighs in at 73 pounds of sweetness! Isabel is a calm, intelligent girl who thrives on human companionship and is eager to be the center of your world. She’s affectionate, loyal, and looking for a family who will give her all the love and attention she deserves. Isabel is a smart pup who loves to learn, and she’s proven herself to be an eager student! She’s completed both basic and advanced obedience classes, so she knows all her commands and is reliable when it comes to following instructions. Training is a breeze for Isabel—especially if there are tasty treats involved! While she’s mastered many skills, there’s one area where she could still use some work: leash training. Isabel tends to pull, especially if there’s a bunny in sight, so she’s looking for a patient owner who can help her work on this skill. Isabel’s story is one of resilience. Thanks to being microchipped as a puppy, we know more about her than many of our rescue dogs. She was born on November 6, 2016, and was originally adopted as a puppy from a rescue in Merrifield, Virginia. Unfortunately, Isabel’s life took a tragic turn when, in 2023, she ended up at the Prince William County Shelter. In July 2023, she was adopted by a man who was living in a travel trailer in a Missouri RV park. When his family called in a welfare check after losing contact with him, police discovered that he had passed away, and Isabel had been alone in the trailer for several days without heat in subzero temperatures. The man’s family released Isabel to our rescue, and we drove all the way to Missouri to bring her to safety. Despite this heartbreaking experience, Isabel has remained loving and gentle. She has great house manners and can be left loose when her humans are away. Isabel currently lives with another large dog in her foster home, but she’s not interested in playing with him—she’d prefer to be the only dog in her home, as she’s probably spent most of her life as the sole pet. She’s a bit possessive and doesn’t share well, but that’s just because she loves her space and wants to be the center of attention. Isabel enjoys chewing on her Benebones and being close to her people, making her an ideal companion for a quiet home where she can relax and feel secure. Isabel does require a physically fenced yard where she can safely run and play. She loves to get some exercise outdoors and enjoys being able to stretch her legs in a secure environment. Isabel is house trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She’s ready to find her forever home and is looking for a family who can give her the care, love, and attention she’s always deserved. If you think Isabel could be the perfect addition to your family, please visit our website at www.furfunrescue.org to complete an adoption application. If you have any questions or would like more information about Isabel, feel free to email Rox at rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adoption fee: $250 Indoor homes only. Adopters must be in a 2 hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Story
Introducing Lexi, a Foxhound, born March 2020 and she needs a new home! Lexi is friendly with other dogs and older kids (age 6+).  The perfect home for her would be with someone who can walk her often or has a fenced yard so she has a place to run and explore.  She also likes to dig and hide her treats in the yard.  She needs someone who will give her lots of love and cuddles.  She is kennel trained, but would prefer not to spend the whole day in her crate.  She is accustomed to being in the kennel if her people are gone.  She will benefit from some additional leash training.  Lexi would be okay with another dog in the home or as the only dog. Lexi is such a smart girl and has a lot of love to give.  She needs regular exercise and would make an excellent hiking buddy.  She loves being outside and basking in the sun.  And of course, she loves watching the birds and squirrels!  Keep an eye on the front door if letting visitors in, she'll take off if she thinks there is a small critter to chase!  Lexi is a quick learner and knows some commands.  Lexi is a little shy at first, but will warm up.  She loves belly rubs, head scratches and cuddles!  Bonus points if you have knowledge on Foxhounds or hunting hounds.  Let's find this sweet girl a new place to call home - apply today! The suggested adoption donation for Lexi is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Sadie is a lovable, playful American Foxhound who’s ready to bring joy and energy into your life! At almost 2 years old, this 79-pound bundle of fun is all about games and snuggles. She loves tossing her favorite chew toys in the air or chasing after balls, and will happily play with you or entertain herself. But don’t let her playful spirit fool you—Sadie has a soft side too. She might be a big girl, but she truly believes she’s a lap dog and will gladly snuggle up with you after a day of fun. She’s also great with other dogs, making her a perfect addition to a multi-dog household. Sadie does have one request: a physical fence is a must, as she loves to explore her surroundings safely. Unfortunately, she’s not a fan of cats, so a feline-free home would be best. If you’re ready for a spirited companion who adores playtime and snuggles, Sadie is the girl for you. Come meet her and see if she’s the perfect match for your family! Sadie is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Sadie please fill out the adoption application on our website: www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about Sadie you can contact rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adopters must be within 2 hours of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Adoption fee is $250.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Wally! This handsome guy came to Safe Haven last year as a local stray. He was with us for a short while before being adopted into a home. Wally was very loved in his home for several months. It was a very tough decision to make, but it was decided that Wally needs home without small children. Wally has showed some signs of resource guarding - with toys, treats/food, and his resting area. Wally has been making frequent trips to one of our volunteers home to continue working on some of the areas that were once a struggle of Wally; he states that Wally has come leaps and bounds in such a short time. Knowing all of these tidbits of Wally's behaviors in a home setting have really assisted in guiding us in the right direction to finding Wally his best, most-suited forever home. Wally needs someone who will love him and continue holding him accountable when his behavior is unacceptable. Wally is up-to-date on his vaccinations, had a veterinary examination, has been microchipped, neutered, received monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventatives - which means.... he is ready to begin looking for his new forever home! As you see in his bio pictures - Wally had a group of special guests choose his name last year.  A volunteer group of Hawkeye Football players picked the name 'Wally', specifically named after their Assistant Defensive Coordinator coach, Seth Wallace. How special is that?! If you are interested in meeting or potentially adopting this handsome hound, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application is submitted, a volunteer will be in contact to set up a meet & greet time.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 10:00 pm
