Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Wally! This handsome guy came to Safe Haven last year as a local stray. He was with us for a short while before being adopted into a home. Wally was very loved in his home for several months. It was a very tough decision to make, but it was decided that Wally needs home without any children. Wally became very protective and showed signs of aggression when young grandchildren were around. Before anything escalated further, his previous owner made the very tough decision to return him with all hopes of finding him the perfect home. One where he doesn't feel the need to be protective nor have any children in harms way. We have also learned that Wally has showed some signs of resource guarding - with toys, treats/food, and his resting area. Knowing all of these tidbits of Wally's behaviors in a home setting have really assisted in guiding us in the right direction to finding Wally his best, most-suited forever home. Wally is up-to-date on his vaccinations, had a veterinary examination, has been microchipped, neutered, received monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventatives - which means.... he is ready to begin looking for his new forever home!As you see in his bio pictures - Wally had a group of special guests choose his name last year.  A volunteer group of Hawkeye Football players picked the name 'Wally', specifically named after their Assistant Defensive Coordinator coach, Seth Wallace. How special is that?!If you are interested in meeting or potentially adopting this handsome hound, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application is submitted, a volunteer will be in contact to set up a meet & greet time.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2024, 7:22 pm

Story
Isabel is 7 year old, 64 pound Foxhound. Isabel is a sweet girl who loves attention and snuggles with her humans. Because Isabel was microchipped we know more about her than we do most rescue dogs. She was born 11/6/16 and was adopted as a puppy from a rescue in Merrifield, Virginia. In 2023 she ended up at the Prince William County Shelter in Manassas, Virginia. A man adopted her in July of 2023 and was living in a travel trailer. He was in an RV park in Bethany, Missouri and his family called in a welfare check on him because they had not heard from him for a few days. When the police found Isabel’s owner he had been deceased for several days and she was in the trailer with no heat and temps well below zero. The man’s family immediately released her to our rescue and we drove to get her to safety. Isabel has clearly had some training in the past because she knows how to sit, lay down, and shake. She has great house manners and doesn’t need a kennel. The one skill she doesn’t seem to have mastered is leash training. She is a strong girl and she will pull when on a leash. She gets easily distracted by other people and dogs when on a walk which makes walks more challenging. She needs continued training and an adopter willing to work with her. She needs a physically fenced yard so she can play safely and continue her training. Isabel is very treat motivated which helps with training. She also enjoys chewing on Benebones or Nylabones. She wants to be near her people and likes cuddles. Isabel doesn’t have any concept of her size and will try to crawl into your lap. At night she will sleep in a dog bed next to her people but she would probably be happier sleeping on the bed with her people. Isabel is house trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Isabel, please complete the adoption application on our website at www.furfunrescue.org. If you have any questions about Isabel you can email Rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adoption fee is $250.00 Indoor homes only. Adopters must be in a 2 hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA
