Story
🐾 HONEY BUNNY was sadly returned to the rescue as a senior after many years in her home because of the oft-cited housing issues. She is good with other dogs and loves people and is still has bursts of playfulness for a 7 year old bigger dog (in the 60 lb range). We will share more pics and updated info on her as her foster gets them to us. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please apply here: www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply and be sure to select their name from the dropdown to expedite your application!! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
MEET HOWIE—OUR SWEET, SOULFUL BACKSTREET BOY!  Howie was one of six innocent dogs discovered at a dump site in Louisiana. Someone had abandoned them there and left them to survive off nothing but garbage. Together, the five boys became our very own Backstreet Boys—AJ, Kevin, Bryan, Nick, and Howie—along with their sweet sister, Daisy, who has already made her way to New York! Despite everything Howie has endured, he is the most precious, loving soul. He is almost two years old, weighs approximately 30–35 pounds, and our best guess is that he is a Jack Russell Terrier/Foxhound mix. New situations can still be frightening for Howie. He is scared of his own shadow and will sometimes cower, hide, or try to make himself as tiny as possible—but there is absolutely no aggression or meanness in this gentle boy. He simply needs a moment to realize that he is safe. And goodness, has he come a long way! Today, we introduced Howie to a brand-new situation. Someone offered him a treat, and almost immediately, he accepted it and began showing them affection. Watching him learn to trust is such a beautiful thing. Howie does wonderfully with children and has gotten along with every dog on our property. He isn’t particularly interested in wild playtime—he would much rather lay low, relax, and quietly enjoy being near his people. He is naturally low-energy, keeps his crate clean, and we believe that once he settles into a loving home, his personality will continue to blossom in the sweetest way. Not into chaos or mischief—just into more confidence, affection, and love. His favorite things are simple: treats, belly rubs, peaceful days, and kind people. All Howie needs is a patient family willing to show him that he never has to make himself small again. Howie is neutered and up to date on all vaccines and preventions. He survived being discarded like he didn’t matter—but now it’s time for this beautiful Backstreet Boy to discover that he is worthy of everything good.  Howie wants it that way: a safe home, a soft bed, and a family of his very own. He is currently still in La.  His $400 adoption fee covers medical up to adoption to include vaccines, neuter, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2767399##

Story
Rowdy is a little shy with new people. Shes great with all dogs she meets and would be best on a home with another dog to help her adjust. Rowdy is curious in new situations, but life up until recently, hasnt been kind to her..... so she will need time to get comfortable and then her true goofy nature will emerge! Like a butterfly, Rowdy is a much different pup than when she 1st came to us from the pound, with no hope of getting out :( UNTIL the rescue chick saw me and knew i was a diamond in the RUFF ;) Rowdy needs a patient home who will give her time to warm up, open up & trust. Older kids only would be best for her and a fully fenced yard is a must. Until she settles in she'll be an escape risk. An apartment would work for Rowdy as well. She is ready for her furever family!! Apply soon! Local adoption fee is $300(in TX)
