Story
Meet Mary….aka Mamma Mary, a four year old shepherd or Belgian Malinois available for adoption. Mamma Mary’s body shows what might have been a tough existence prior to coming to us. Her frame is bony under her fur, ribs are somewhat visible, more than they should be, her belly sags from nursing puppies we’ve never met… but we know she gave them everything she had. Needless to say, she deserves far better her next go around. Getting to know her, beyond her visible reminders of her past… she’s kinda a sweet, goofy, playful gal that likes closeness, pets, stuffed toys, being told she’s a good girl and lastly, absolutely loves treat!! Let’s remember that the past does not dictate the future… Mary, just Mary will be a phenomenal addition to a family that loves shepherds/belgian Malinois, can give her space, training, fair expectations, and lots of love and playtime. She’s eager to meet and greet and get a taste of the good life. Can you help her with a share? ??Please spay & neuter your pets??***Adoption fees are half price through December 31, 2025: Dogs $151Cats $98- - - Included is spay/neuter, microchip and age appropriate core vaccines. All adoptions are first come first serve Updated Adoption Hours effective starting 11/19/25:Tues-Sat1pm - 4pm160 Hitchcock RoadSalinas, CA

Story
Argo is currently in foster care. Here is what his foster family has to say about this handsome guy:Meet Argo, our incredible foster dog from Hitchcock Road Animal Services.Argo is a 3-year-old German Shepherd, and while his coloring may hint at Belgian Malinois, his heart and soul are pure German Shepherd. Loyal, gentle, and deeply loving.Argo is one of those dogs who truly loves being loved. He adores people, leans in for pets, and soaks up every bit of affection he can get. He’s just as wonderful with other dogs and enjoys playful moments with his canine friends. When Argo came to us, he was neglected, malnourished, and frightened of the world around him. He had missed out on so much and didn’t yet know what it meant to feel safe. But with patience, kindness, and a steady routine, everything changed. The scared dog we met no longer exists. In his place is a confident, joyful boy whose personality shines brighter every day. Argo has blossomed into a devoted companion who walks beautifully on a leash, is learning obedience, and is making great progress with crate training. He has a medium energy level and loves his daily walks and playtime. He is potty trained, has good recall when off leash, and most of all, he wants nothing more than to be someone’s loyal best friend.Argo’s journey is a reminder of what love and stability can do. He is ready for a forever home where he can continue to thrive — and give back every ounce of love he’s been waiting to share. To schedule a meet and greet with Argo, please call the HRAS main line at 831-769-8850.

Story
Mixed breed maleRe-introducing Atlas. This handsome fellow was found by a Good Samaritan way back in February when he was just a wee pup. Atlas suffered a broken pelvis after being hit by a car, but has since recovered. He does have a slightly abnormal gait but X-rays show that everything has set, no further intervention is needed. He’s a happy and playful brindle boy - not our typical breed makeup here at CCHDR but a good one nonetheless. Atlas is people, dog, and CAT friendly. Because he’s mixed with so many different breeds, he’s got the best of all worlds. He has a super sweet and calm demeanor and been raised by the best foster mom, so we know he’s got a solid foundation. He’s housebroken, crate trained, knows basic commands and more! Atlas is now a 1 year old, 70lb, valley special. Located in Tranquillity, CA but his foster would be willing to travel a few hours in any direction for a serious, qualified adopter.   More photos and updates:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1345398709755113&type=3   Interested in Atlas ?   Please complete an application at: http://bit.ly/CCHDR_App AppDecember 24, 2025, 7:57 pm
