Story
Meet Aurora ***The first step in the adoption process is to go to www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to complete the adoption application*** Hi, my name is Aurora! The humans also call me Rory. I am a young dog looking for an active home. The humans say I can't be much over a year old. I love to wrestle with the other dogs for hours. I like people and will snuggle sometimes but really, I just want to play and run with my dog friends! I have a naughty habit of jumping on people, but the humans are working on it while I'm here. I will likely need continued help remembering people don't want to be jumped on. I was adopted once before, and the people said I would get out of the fence and had more energy than was ideal for their family. Unfortunately, my pent-up energy led me to chewing some things inappropriately and jumping more and more. I do well in the fence at my foster home but I'm never alone. I can be cat tested again if my potential home has cats. but the first time I was in foster I was only curious about the cats and never hurt them. I do take a little bit to get comfortable with new dog friends. but once I'm comfortable we will play forever! I don't particularly care for other dogs getting into my kennel messing with my toys or treats. I am comfortable sharing scattered food and sharing toys though! My ideal home would be a very active home with another dog or two to play with! I will need help with leash manners but I am smart as could be so it shouldn't take long to teach me! I would likely be fine with older kids in the home that won't get hurt if I jump on them. I am house trained, and kennel trained. I also know some basic commands!  If you think your active home may be a fit for me, please submit an application so we can meet and see how we get along! Aurora is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $250.00 November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

Story
Name: Mollie Mae Age: 4 years Gender: female Breed: German Shepherd mix Weight: 66 lbs Dog friendly: yes, slow intros, please Cat friendly: no cats, please Child friendly: yes, older dog-savvy gentle children, please House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy level: Moderate Temperament: Loving, intelligent, snuggly, playful ,loyal Requirement: Not rental  appropriate   Adoption Fee: $375+tax To adopt, go to:   www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Mollie doesn’t just want a home — she wants a heart to curl up with. Mollie is one of the most devoted, affectionate dogs you’ll ever meet. She gently presses her head into your lap and rolls onto her side, quietly asking for pets and belly rubs. No matter her size, she’s certain she belongs close to her people, soaking up every moment of comfort and love. She’s beginning to learn how to play with her foster sister and loves curling up together on the couch. Mollie does best with slow, thoughtful introductions to other dogs, but once she feels safe, she settles in beautifully and becomes a happy part of the pack. While she adores staying right by your side, her playful personality is starting to shine. She’s discovering the joy of balls and squeaky toys, pouncing on them with puppy-like enthusiasm. One of her favorite activities is diving into the snow and spinning in joyful little circles. After her time in Alabama, it’s clear that Mollie is absolutely in love with the snow — and with the simple happiness of feeling safe, warm, and cared for.     February 7, 2026, 2:44 pm

Story
Name:  Linden Age: Young (DOB: 3/13/25)  Gender: Male Breed:  German Shepherd Mix Weight: 64 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: testing available upon request Child Friendly: Yes – older respectful children preferred House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Energy Level: Moderate / Low Temperament: Loving, cuddly, intelligent, playful, tender-spirited Home Requirements: Not rental  appropriate; companion dog in the home Adoption Fee: $400 + tax To adopt, go to:  www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html   Some of the bravest hearts are the ones that had the hardest beginnings. Meet Linden. Linden is a gentle, friendly, big ole teddy bear who’s still learning how to feel safe in a world that once failed him. He came from a 30-dog hoarding situation, where he lived in a barn with no heat and frozen water, relying on the kindness of strangers who donated food just to help the dogs survive. That kind of start would leave anyone unsure — and Linden is no exception. He’s scared of his own shadow some days, and he’ll need more time than most to settle into new surroundings. With Linden, patience isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. He thrives with people who move slowly, speak softly, and allow trust to grow at his pace. And when that trust finally takes hold, Linden’s goofy, tender heart shines through. Once he feels secure, his charm peeks out in the sweetest ways. He tilts his head at strange sounds like he’s trying to solve a puzzle. He loves stretching out on the couch, especially when he can snuggle his favorite stuffed bunny or frog. And when the zoomies hit or he does his clumsy little happy hops, he’ll give you that wide-eyed “please pretend you didn’t see that” look that makes him impossible not to love. Linden would  do well with a confident, friendly dog in the home. He watches other dogs closely and learns from their calm, reassuring cues — slowly discovering that the world can be safe, warm, and even fun. He’s looking for a calm, understanding home that celebrates small victories and offers steady reassurance. With time, kindness, and maybe a canine role model, Linden will reward you with quiet loyalty, soft snuggles, and the incredible joy of watching a once-scared pup discover confidence. Like the tree he’s named for, Linden represents quiet strength, healing, and protection. Linden trees are symbols of refuge — a safe place to rest after enduring hardship. With patience, kindness, and time, Linden will do exactly what his namesake promises: take root, grow strong, and offer unwavering loyalty to the people who give him a chance. If you believe the most tender souls deserve the safest harbors, Linden is ready to come home. February 1, 2026, 12:34 pm

Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Tommy’s journey hasn’t been easy, but his heart is pure gold. Originally from California, this 2-year-old boy was once on the euthanasia list before a kind rescuer stepped in to save him. Tommy is already neutered, crate-trained (he won’t potty in his crate and does best if let outside right away). He was born with a condition called Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, which means he has limited vision. Sometimes when he’s nervous, he may circle or seem a little panicked, but a calm, guiding hand quickly reassures him. He also takes glucosamine for occasional joint stiffness. Tommy enjoys being outdoors and loves a good game of fetch, but when storms roll in, he prefers to be safe inside with his people. He thrives on attention and would do best in an active home without lots of obstacles or commotion. Tommy cannot live with cats or small dogs but would do wonderfully with a calm, confident female dog companion. Because of his special needs, prior breed experience and knowledge of caring for a blind dog are required. Tommy has come so far already and is ready to find a loving, patient forever home where he can continue to grow, thrive, and share his boundless loyalty.
