For an adoption application on SAMMI click here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
Dora is a 2 year old female German Shepard mix. She came to us from a hoarding situation in Galloway. Given the situation she came from she can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly and LOVES to be loved on. Dora gets along well with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats. Due to her being food motivated, we are recommending a home with no young children. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Age: 2yrs 2mths 2wks

Story
Lucas is a very sweet boy. He was pulled from a hoarding situation. He takes a little bit to warm up not much. 2 days after I got him from the hoard he became my best friend. He currently goes out in the play yard with 2 other dogs. A female and male. I would suggest older kids just because he has not had much exposure. He is a little nervous with men but I do feel again with the right exposure he will flourish. It's just a bunch of gals here working with all the babies.

Story
Winston is ready to find his family. Winston is a handsome 3 year old boy who will bring a smile each day.  He is an active dog and was part of the running club at the shelter.  He has done great in his foster home with training.  He loves to learn puzzle games and is excelling  on his basic commands.  Winston wants to find a family who is committed to keeping him physical and mentally active. He would benefit from an adopter with GSD experience who is committed to continuing his training. He has done well with dog savy cats and the dogs in his foster home after slow introductions.  ##1674636##

Story
Scarlett is almost perfect... well for a puppy! She was found abandoned in a S. Jersey town in December, 2023. No one came to claim her and she was just a tiny puppy. Scarlett is very very playful and doing well in her obedience training. She is crate trained, housebroken and loves everyone. She had a DNA and is 70% German Shepherd. She loves walking and is good in the car. She also loves to cuddle.

Story
Kona is a very hyper and playful German shepherd/pit bull mix. She is wonderful with children, but would do best with older kids due to her size and energy. She lives with both male and female dogs, and does well, but when food is involved she has been known to try and assert dominance with the female. She harmlessly chases our cat, whom she has never hurt, but again would do best in a home without cats due to her size and energy. A large fenced in yard would do wonders to get out her energy, but she is very much a Velcro dog and needs someone with lots of time to play. Our home is very small so she does currently exhibit some anxious behavior (running circles, carrying around a support stuffy, and some whining when confined). We hope we can find her a home with the space and attention she deserves.

Story
Meet Loca! Loca came to us from our shelter partner in Puerto Rico, El Faro. She was adopted out to be later return back to us due to no fault of her own. Loca has been patiently waiting to find her perfect person. She's a very sweet and cuddly girl. She is a typical Belgian Malinois, she has a lot of energy, but with some exercise, she quickly calms down. Loca loves to play ball and is very gentle when playing. She likes to have something to do and is active. She needs some work which all shelter dogs do. We recommend she goes to a home with no small children or cats. Please do your research on this breed before applying. An appointment to meet her is required. Your application will be reviewed and screened by our director.
