Story
*Meet Molly* Molly is a beautiful 6-year-old German Shepherd–St. Bernard mix with a big heart and a loyal spirit. Calm and gentle at home, she loves spending her days relaxing nearby or quietly following you from room to room. But once she’s outside, her playful and adventurous side shines through — she loves to run, explore, and take in all the sights and smells around her. Molly is deeply devoted and protective of her people — the kind of companion who will always have your back. She would thrive as the only pet in the home, as she doesn’t get along with other dogs and can be wary of strangers. Molly had a tough start to life. She was sold far too early, at only four weeks old, and likely came from a stressful environment. Because she didn’t have the proper time with her mother, she missed out on learning some early dog-to-dog social cues. Despite that, she’s incredibly intelligent and full of love — she just needs patience, understanding, and a calm, stable environment. Loud noises and too much excitement can make Molly anxious, so a peaceful home without children or other pets is best. She can be a little uncertain at first and may seem ready for pets before changing her mind — a bit like a cat! With time and trust, though, she forms deep bonds with her people and shows her true, affectionate self. She can snap when she feels afraid or threatened so a calm and understanding family is a must. Molly is also leash-reactive, so a fully fenced yard would be ideal to give her space to run and burn off energy safely. She absolutely loves adventures up north, exploring the woods, and breathing in the fresh air. She’s been loved and well cared for her whole life, but she’s ready for a new chapter — one with an experienced adopter who understands sensitive, loyal dogs like her. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will love you unconditionally and appreciate the calm moments by your side, Molly might just be the perfect match. Molly is vaccinated, microchipped, has his flea, tick & heartworm prevention, is sterilized and will come with her medical booklet. Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things!

Story
Meet Mila! Mila is a gorgeous 7-month-old German Shepherd/Husky mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. She is looking for a family that is ready to embrace all the fun (and adventure!) that comes with raising a smart, energetic puppy. Mila is sterilized, up to date on all of her vaccinations, and microchipped. This sweet girl is fully potty trained, sleeps quietly in her crate overnight, and already knows several commands including **sit, down, touch, give paw**, and she's currently learning **stay**. She absolutely loves being with her people and is happiest when she's included in daily life. Like many working breeds, Mila is incredibly intelligent and active. She will need a family that has the time and commitment to continue her training while keeping her both physically exercised and mentally stimulated. Puzzle toys, training sessions, adventures, and enrichment activities will help her become the very best version of herself. Mila is wonderful with other dogs and loves having canine friends to play with, although her enthusiasm and puppy energy can sometimes be a bit much for more laid-back dogs. She would do best with a confident, patient dog that enjoys having an energetic playmate. She would also make a fantastic addition to a home with older children who understand how to interact respectfully with an active puppy. Mila is an incredibly affectionate dog who forms strong bonds with her humans. Because of this, she does experience some separation anxiety and is happiest in a home where someone is around most of the day or where her alone time can be increased gradually through positive training. She is also a very mouthy puppy, which is completely manageable with consistent redirection and continued training. She isn't aggressive—she simply expresses her excitement the way many shepherd and husky puppies do. With patience and consistency, she's already making great progress. Mila can be protective of her food, which is understandable given her past. She was previously adopted through another rescue where multiple dogs were fed together in a confined space and expected to "work it out" during mealtimes. Since coming into our care, we've learned that she simply needs structured feeding routines and positive reinforcement to continue building confidence around food. Mila is an incredibly loving, loyal, goofy girl with endless potential. She is searching for a family who understands that puppies require time, guidance, and patience—but the reward is a devoted companion for years to come. If you're looking for an active best friend who will love you with her whole heart and grow alongside your family, Mila may be the perfect match. Could you be the forever family Mila has been waiting for? Voici Mila!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. BEAU and his 5 siblings were born after their mum, was saved from a large hoarding case in Northern Texas (April 2026) where the American Humane were involved due to the scale of abuse and neglect. "Sweetie" their mum was heavily pregnant and had a rotted, infected foot/leg that caused her leg to need amputation. Luckily she was saved and was able to give birth to 6 healthy pups in the safety of the local animal control department and their foster team.  After getting vetted and old enough to travel (8 wks) they arrived safely at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine on 28 May 2026. We had planned to take their mum, Sweetie along with the pups, but we are happy to share that she was a Foster-Fail down in Texas. We welcome adopters from across the East Coast and Canada — many of our families travel to meet and take home their new best friend! Health & Background I was informed by the ladies on transport that they were told that BEAU was deaf. This does appear to be the case and so we are looking for experienced families with another dog to be his hearing companion. Estimated date of birth: 31 March 2026 ✅ Neutered ✅ Core vaccines up to date - too young for Rabies ✅ Monthly preventatives ✅ Microchipped with 24PetWatch - registered with Free Pet Chip Registry. ⚖️ Weight approx. 10 pounds at end of May There is no doubt that BEAU is the cutest, most adorable pup ever. He is fun, goofy, loving, affectionate, smart and very stubborn lol. Of course the fact he is deaf makes him all the more cuter but this does mean he needs a family that has what he needs and the understanding of his needs. Although animals thrive with disabilities and Beau is doing fantastic here with the other pups and the senior dogs, he does miss out on very important cues from the other dogs - that being verbal communication - those low growls from the bigger dogs telling him to back off, other communications he misses, he has to be watching the dogs body language for his communication with them and well lets face it he is a puppy and is interested in everything and anything everywhere. We feel it is important that Beau be adopted with another puppy or to a family that has a dog of up to 1-2 years old at the most. The reason for this is so that they can form a bond, and Beau will follow the cues from the other dog, if Beau is not watching you he will almost definitely follow the other dog if you call them inside from playing in the yard - this is important for safety issues too. Sign language is of course a tool to train him, but sign language is only good when he is looking at you. BEAU needs a family that is active and understands his intelligence and be sure he gets his physical and mental needs met along with that ever so important socialization and exposure to different environments. Our adoption fee's are $550 per dog/pup or $1,000 for two. Adoption Details Location: Dover-Foxcroft, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire.
