Story
FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT URGENTLY NEEDED! Our partner shelter is once again overcrowded and has reached out to us for help with a sweet German Shepherd that is very stressed at the shelter. Sierra is 6.5 years old, spayed, vaccinated, 70 pounds, and in good health. She has been with several families in the past and has lacked stability, but we’re aiming to change that. Sierra was mainly used for breeding by people with bad intentions. Despite this unhappy past, she is adorable with humans, very sweet, docile, obedient, and housetrained. Sierra can live in the city if she gets to go out for walks every day. She may bark a little to warn of visitors but is not overly vocal and is able to stay home alone. Sierra has never lived with cats and gets excited around them but could possibly adapt if she's introduced very gradually and with cats who are used to big dogs. She accepts other male dogs who are gentle and respectful of her space, however, is less patient with young dogs who are too excited and just want to play all the time. If you’re interested in fostering and potentially providing Sierra with a forever home, please complete the adoption questionnaire on our website at www.kikodogrescue.ca. If you would like to offer to be a temporary foster only, please complete the temporary foster home questionnaire. You can also send us a PM or email us at info@kikodogrescue.ca with any questions you may have. When fostering, food and other expenses are paid for by Kiko. We are active in the Greater Montreal and Eastern Ontario areas.

Story
*Meet Molly* Molly is a beautiful 6-year-old German Shepherd–St. Bernard mix with a big heart and a loyal spirit. Calm and gentle at home, she loves spending her days relaxing nearby or quietly following you from room to room. But once she’s outside, her playful and adventurous side shines through — she loves to run, explore, and take in all the sights and smells around her. Molly is deeply devoted and protective of her people — the kind of companion who will always have your back. She would thrive as the only pet in the home, as she doesn’t get along with other dogs and can be wary of strangers. Molly had a tough start to life. She was sold far too early, at only four weeks old, and likely came from a stressful environment. Because she didn’t have the proper time with her mother, she missed out on learning some early dog-to-dog social cues. Despite that, she’s incredibly intelligent and full of love — she just needs patience, understanding, and a calm, stable environment. Loud noises and too much excitement can make Molly anxious, so a peaceful home without children or other pets is best. She can be a little uncertain at first and may seem ready for pets before changing her mind — a bit like a cat! With time and trust, though, she forms deep bonds with her people and shows her true, affectionate self. She can snap when she feels afraid or threatened so a calm and understanding family is a must. Molly is also leash-reactive, so a fully fenced yard would be ideal to give her space to run and burn off energy safely. She absolutely loves adventures up north, exploring the woods, and breathing in the fresh air. She’s been loved and well cared for her whole life, but she’s ready for a new chapter — one with an experienced adopter who understands sensitive, loyal dogs like her. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will love you unconditionally and appreciate the calm moments by your side, Molly might just be the perfect match. Molly is vaccinated, microchipped, has his flea, tick & heartworm prevention, is sterilized and will come with her medical booklet. Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sandy and her siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August. We post our available dogs in states across the East Coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes of finding perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs — families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and, hopefully, take home their new best friend. Sandy is a Belgian Mal / German Shepherd Mix and it is important to understand that she is a high energy, intelligent girl so be sure you have the lifestyle that she needs to give her and you the best life possible together... note she is also a love bug and all round sweet, gentle girl - not the maligator people assume when they hear the name Belgian Mal. Health & Background ✅ Spayed ✅ Rabies and core vaccines up to date ✅ On monthly flea/tick preventatives ✅ Microchipped ⚖️ Weight: 65 lbs ish Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 After a devastating fire at the rescue on 20 January, SANDY went to a foster family in southern Maine on 24th January. This is what her foster family has said about her: Terra (aka Sandy) has been fostering with us for two months. She is such a loving soul and one of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet. Terra loves running and playing and taking walks with our dog, Apollo. Apollo was slow to accept her, but now that he has such a fun time playing with her in the yard, he has seemed to become much more tolerant of another dog in his house.   Terra is crate trained. She sleeps well through the night without complaint, and plays with her chew toys if she wakes up before we do. During the day she'll spend 30-45 minutes crated off and on. She does so without being noisy now, except she does still protest if we have her crated when we are eating dinner. She does better if our dog is crated at dinner time with her, so it seems to be at least partially a competition/jealousy issue.   She's got her basic commands down--come, stay, sit, lay down, and her release command 'break.' She walks nicely on a leash, although we do have some issues with pulling when she's walked along with another dog. She's calmer when she's walked on her own as she still gets more playful energy when she's with a canine friend. We had some peeing occur in the house the first 2-3 weeks, but she has done great with potty training and it's been more than a month since the last incident.   Terra loves her toys and isn't choosy...she'll go from playing with a stuffy to nomming on a rope toy to chasing around a ball. While she has her bursts of playful energy, she has overall been calming down and having long periods where she chills out and and rests peacefully.   It's been a pleasant evolution as now she is far more content to spend stretches of time laying next to me resting or chewing on a toy while I read or am at my desk.   Terra has been waiting long months since arriving at Give a Dog a Home Rescue rescue in September to find a forever home with a family that will give her the love she deserves. If you can be that family, please apply to adopt What SandyNeeds ‍♀️ An active family that can meet her physical and mental exercise needs Mental stimulation and enrichment — structure, toys, puzzles, and engaging activities ️ High-quality food and treats to keep her healthy and energized Regular veterinary wellness checks for preventive care and long-term health ❤️ Time to adjust and feel safe — patience to decompress and build trust   Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Southern Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Sandy. ⏱️ Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Sandy? Many people stepped up to foster and a boarding and day care kennels in Bangor also reached out to offer to take some dogs and they took Cruz and his girl riends Clara Belle and Ryder Girl.
