Story
Meet Devlin — A Little Fighter with a Big Heart!
Devlin is a 4-month-old Chocolate Lab/Pointer mix (best guess) who has already overcome so much — and now he’s ready for his forever family!
This sweet boy is playful, cuddly, and curious, with all the adorable puppy energy you could hope for. Devlin loves exploring the backyard, chasing balls, playing tug-of-war, and bringing his favorite stuffy toys to his people in hopes that they’ll throw them for him. When playtime is over, though, he is perfectly happy to curl up beside you on the couch with a Nylabone and enjoy some snuggle time.
Devlin has a low-to-medium energy level for a puppy. He definitely has his playful moments, but he also knows how to settle down for a good nap. Most of all, he loves being around his family and being part of whatever is happening.
Devlin is wonderful with other dogs and absolutely loves having canine friends to play with. He would do very well in a home with another friendly, playful dog. He is also great with people and kids of all ages. His foster family includes children ages 10 and 12, and Devlin has done wonderfully with them. He is comfortable meeting strangers and adjusts well to new environments.
He would love a fenced-in yard where he can safely run, explore, and investigate all the interesting things puppies find in the grass! He's also perfectly happy in an active household and has been exposed to plenty of normal household activity and noises. Wherever his people are, that's where Devlin wants to be.
Devlin is still a young puppy, so his new family should be prepared for continued puppy training. He is working hard on house training and is already starting to catch on. With consistency and frequent potty breaks, he's usually accident-free. He knows “sit” and is learning that “go outside” means it's time for a potty break and “go to bed” means it's time to head into his crate.
He does well in his kennel and sleeps through the night in his crate in his foster family's room. He doesn't show signs of separation anxiety, although he may whine a little when his people first leave. His foster family helps make departures positive by leaving him with toys and a special treat.
Devlin hasn't been on regular walks yet because he needed to be quarantined after recovering from Parvo and completing the necessary vaccinations to keep him safe. The good news is that he survived Parvo with no complications and has regained the weight he lost while he was sick. This little guy is a fighter!
He has started getting some leash practice in the backyard and has already discovered that a leash is a pretty fun thing to put in his mouth and use to “walk” his person. He's still learning, but that's all part of being a puppy!
Devlin has also been around parakeets in his foster home. He's curious about them but has been taught to leave them alone. He has not been tested with cats, so his foster family cannot say for certain how he would do with them.
Devlin's Favorite Things:
Playing with other dogs
Chasing balls
Tug-of-war
Stuffy toys
Nylabones
Exploring the backyard
Cuddling with his people
Puppy naps
Devlin is not yet neutered but is scheduled to be neutered in October and is on monthly preventative.
This sweet boy has already shown just how strong he is. He is a fighter, a survivor, and an absolute joy to have around. His foster family says he is a wonderful puppy, and we think the best part of his story is still waiting to be written — with his forever family.
If you're looking for a loving, playful puppy who will grow alongside your family and become your loyal adventure buddy and snuggle companion, Devlin might just be your boy!
