Meet Petra, a super sweet and spunky 3 month old female German Wirehaired Pointer mix puppy! Petra is one of the pups from the Oktoberfest litter, born to mama Gretchen (37 lb German Wirehaired Pointer mix - found as a stray in east TN when she was heavily pregnant) on 10/29/2025. We are unsure what Dad is, but based on the pups' current age and size, we think these scruffy pups will grow to around 40-60 lbs.  From Petra, Freya, and Heidi's current foster:  "These three amazing puppies are the perfect mix of loving cuddle bugs and confident little explorers. They absolutely love cuddling up in your lap for snuggles, but they’re also wonderfully independent and happy to entertain themselves with a ball or a squeaky toy when playtime calls.  They are playful, kind-hearted, and gentle souls who get along amazingly with other dogs, cats, and kids. These beautiful pups are true social butterflies with great manners for their age. Whether it’s playing by themselves or together or settling in for a nap, they adjust beautifully. All three are crate trained and are doing great with potty training. They currently use pee pads indoors, eat wonderfully, and are taken outside right after meals, where they already know how to do their business outdoors, such smart girls! Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. This cutie is Silas. He is currently 2 months old and weighs approximately 17 lbs. We think they may be a German short haired pointer/pitbull mix , but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies.
