Story
Mr. Whiskers is something out of a movie! If you have seen the movie Isle of Dogs he is straight out of that movie. Somehow Scruffy but soft, his gentle nature really shines though his eyes, and he is an absolute dream schmedium size. Is he a big little dog? Maybe a little big dog? Whatever you call it he isn’t going to take up much room in the car or on the couch, your heart is another story.
Estimated to be just over a year old and fully grown at 46 lbs, he is some special mix that likely includes wire haired terrier. But, with rescue dogs, breed and birthday are details we cannot guarantee. We do guarantee he is going to make for one sweet addition to the right family life.
Whiskers was so fortunate to start his rescue journey in a loving home. He may have walked into that home nervous and unsure how to trust people, but in just two weeks, he amazed his fosters and was opening up and showing his sweet personality. Joining a home with other dogs has helped show off his growing playful side and his foster shares how hilarious it is to watch him learn how to play. She explained its like watching a toddler- so innocent and sweet, a little awkward but so ready to learn! His signature play move is a pounce- usually in an attempt to join in on fun or get it started. You can see it in his video here and listen to his foster share more about Mr. Whiskers. Come back and read more after watching!

We feel Mr. Whiskers is best suited for a home with at least one other dog. A calm, confident companion, who won’t mind his occasional awkward approach to being a dog. He’s not looking for the chaos of a young or wild friend or the correction of a dominant or cranky dog—he needs a dog who will model good behavior without pushing him. He enjoys play when the vibe is gentle and will mirror balanced dogs well. We also believe he could live with a dog-savvy cat, especially one who sets respectful boundaries so that is established early. When he met our house cat he perked up and showed interest but was overall curiously cautious. We can see that even a gentle correction from a cat would be felt and respected.
Some things Whiskers has already mastered-
Leash walking! He’s got lovely leash manners once he’s comfortable
Loading into the car! If you get the door he will take it from there. Once on the road he will be a quiet back seat boy.
House and crate training! His foster praised his house manners and overall respectfulness of the home, plus he is fully house and crate trained!
Currently we think Mr. Whiskers is too unsure to live in a home with young kids, and we are holding off on making that call until he gains more confidence. He has been around small kids and is safe and trustworthy but simply finds it overwhelming. Little visitors are welcome but full-time family dog would be too much. Think of Mr. Whiskers like that one uncle, kids are great as long as they are someone elses. We do see Mr. Whiskers doing well in an apartment, especially with a consistent schedule, continued socializing, and daily outings. A home with another dog is highly encouraged—not just for companionship, but as an emotional anchor.
Whiskers is the kind of dog who’s experiencing most of life for the first time. What he needs isn’t perfection—it’s patience. Structure. Safety. Someone who sees the potential in quiet progress and is willing to love a dog who isn’t the life of the party but has a deep, steady heart once he trusts you. Mr. Whiskers will show you exactly why rescue-dog love is like no other. Watching him bloom will be beautiful!

https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.
Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!
Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.
Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.
While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.
It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
