Story
Meet Glover! Glover was taken to Bonita Shelter after being found a stray in Ramona, and when he wasn't claimed during his hold period, we scooped him up to become a Frosted Face on September 6, 2022. Glover is around 10 years old and weighs 21 lbs. He let us know upon arrival that he didn't like being his kennel or in the play yard. It was as if he was trying to tell us that he shouldn't be here, because he had a family and home to get back to! Sadly, no one came for him, and we worked to steadily to earn Glover's trust and to give him enriching activities and experiences. He loves going our weekly FFF hikes, and he has great leash manners, energy and stamina. Glover spent months being foster by FFF's founders, and it was in their home, he truly began to decompress and blossom into a member of a pack and family. Since the beginning of December 2023, Glover went to live in another Foster home, and we received a greatl update from his foster family: "This fine boy is coming along leaps and bounds! Glover is really starting to show his personality and is clearly feeling secure. He is so much more relaxed with us and around us, his ears spend more time up with curiosity and less time down with fear. He's definitely very attached to his humans now, is doing so much better with our two dogs, but still has some separation anxiety, barking a lot when we're not home. Glover no longer vehemently resists a walk, and now happily trots along with our 2 non FFs, taking time to smell all the smells along the way. He knows where he lives, finds his way on leash up the front walkway, and has not been tempted to do a runner out of the front door. We've taken him out a lot more in the car, which he seems to really enjoy, and this weekend we're going to see how he does on a weekend away in the RV!" Glover has a patient and loving foster family, who is giving him time to feel safe, and celebrating small steps forward. Now, Glover just needs a forever family willing to do the same. Might it be you?

Story
Meet Dewey! We rescued Dewey in November 2018 from the Downey Shelter. We placed him with a nice family who loved him well, and over the years Dewey battled glaucoma in his right eye, which we ultimately removed for his comfort. Dewey was recetly relinquished back to us when his family felt they could no longer take care of him. Now 15 years old, Dewey is still a sweet, gentle, and polite boy who loves his walks and car rides. He navigates really well, plays with toys, and has lots of pep in his step! He can hear every sound, knows his name, and comes when called. Dewey went on a two-week Frosted Fling, and his Fling Family provided us with lots of helpful details to help us find his perfect match. "Dewey is a very happy guy! He is a 'turnkey' dog, meaning no extra work is needed. He is just perfect! He immediately settled into our routine, adapting very quickly to the new environment. He made himself right at home! Dewey can't see very well, but he doesn't let that stop him at all! He can hear really well and has great 'dog sense.' Within a few days, he could navigate our house, and also go to the park and back very easily! Dewey is very confident on the leash, and is a good boy to sit when asked. He loves to be with his person/people, and would follow me from room to room. He's okay sleeping in a comfy dog bed next to your bed, but also loves sleeping in the human bed! Dewey loves attention! He was friendly to everyone he met when he came to work with me and always loved the pets from everyone. Dewey can do hikes longer than 2 miles, but does not need to. He's happy with a nice walk around the park or stroll on the beach. He's playful at times, but overall very chill and loves a comfy doggie bed for a good nap. Dewey gets along great with my dog and my cat. He was anxious at first meeting new dogs at the park, but eventually warmed up. Dewey is a great eater! He practically galloped back from the park in the mornings and evenings, knowing he would get to eat when we got home. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Dewey. He's absolutely perfect and will make an amazing companion!" Dewey currently lives in a Foster home as he waits for his forever family. Might it be you?

Story
Meet Kathana! Kathana came to us from the San Diego Humane Society on March 11th. She is a sweet and friendly girl who enjoys sitting in laps. As you can see in the video, Kathana loves playing fetch. She also loves going on our weekly hikes, after going 3 miles on the trail, she still has pep in her step. If you're looking for an exercise buddy, this fun pup won't disappoint! Kathana is 8 years old and weighs 16 lbs. Kathana recently went on a 3-day Frosted Field trip with volunteers and earned a rave review! "Kathana was a perfect little companion this weekend! We took her on long walks in Carlsbad, for a night out on the town in Encintas, to the Batiquitos Lagoon and the San Elijo Lagoon & Annie's Canyon Trail, and more. Kathana loves long walks, snuggling, and food. If you get on the couch, she's right there with you and happy to relax by your side. If you head out for an outing, she is super psyched about wherever you take her. Kathana almost seems to be in awe about the world around her. She has great stamina, and after an hour or more of brisk walking, she still had energy to spare. She handled a variety of outdoor environments well - a busy Saturday night street scene, a skate park, nature trails, a rocky beach, day, night, rain, wind. Kathana slept through the night and had good indoor manners, too. She always waited until she was outside to go potty. While she was reactive to other dogs during our walks, distraction with a treat sometimes worked. Kathana is an incredibly affectionate and happy-go-lucky girl, and we're so grateful for the long weekend we got to spend with her." Kathana just left on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we can learn what she is like in a home. Check back soon for an update!

Story
Meet Nena! Nena was surrendered to the San Diego Humane Society - El Cajon following a divorce in her family. We scooped her up on April 1st to become a Frosted Face. Nena is 12 years old and weighs 21 lbs. She is very sweet and friendly. In her former home, Nena lived with four young children and was reportedly very good with them. Nena went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what she is like in a home. We received a great report from her Fling Mom: "Nena is such a great dog. She will snuggle with you or go for a walk - your choice! She will entertain herself if you are busy (probably nap.) She will be a lap warmer while you work. She's so easy-going. She is house-trained and does fine for 4 hours (the longest we left her). She's not a barker when she's in a home. More about Nena: - She is a big foodie and loves keeping you company in the kitchen. Do you like to cook? She likes to supervise and taste test! - She enjoys walks and keeps a nice pace with you. - She is fine being picked up, having her feet touched, eyes cleaned, and is just very tolerant. - She can get in and out of the car, up and off the couch on her own. - She doesn't take any meds! - She likes to watch tv with you or sit nearby if you are busy with a project. - She's good with other dogs. She shares space on the couch and dog beds with my dogs. Nena is the perfect dog for someone who wants a snuggly companion!" Nena is currently on a second Frosted Fling while she waits for her forever family. Might that be you?
