Meet Pete. Pete's story is one of those that reminds us that sometimes, life changes in ways we never expected. Pete was brought to the shelter by one of our Humane Officers after his family was evicted from their home and, unfortunately, had nowhere they could take him. Pete was safely brought to MHS and held while we hoped his family would be able to reach out or come for him. Sadly, that call never came. We know that sometimes families fall on incredibly difficult times, and we don't know everything Pete's family may have been going through. What we do know is that Pete hasn't let any of this change who he is. He's still the same loving, gentle boy who just wants to be close to his people and soak up as much love as he can. During Pete's medical examination, our team noticed that something wasn't quite right with one of his back legs. X-rays revealed that Pete had suffered a fractured tibia that had already healed over. Because the injury had been left for some time, our veterinarian determined that an amputation would give Pete the best opportunity to be comfortable and live a happy, healthy life moving forward. Pete still has all four legs right now, but he is scheduled for his amputation next week. And while his life is about to look a little different, we have every reason to believe Pete is going to continue being the wonderful dog he's always been. This boy is an absolute sweetheart. He loves being right beside you, getting attention, and feeling loved. In fact, Pete has quickly become a STAFF FAVORITE. Pete is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. All he needs now is someone who will look past the three legs he'll soon have and see what we see: a loving, deserving dog who still has so much love to give. Lark was running loose in a neighborhood along with a few other dogs. Neighbors called Animal Control for some help. The officers arrived and were able to catch several of the dogs and one of them was Lark! Lark was never claimed by his owner and is now ready for adoption. Lark has all of his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative, he has a microchip, and he has been neutered. Lark is a “teenage” puppy so be ready for lots of fun activities and play time!! This retriever mix needs lots of exercise and plenty of love!!

Meet Dax! At just 4 months old and 30 pounds, Dax is a Retriever mix with a whole lot of puppy love to give! Dax came to us as a stray after a kind citizen found him and cared for him for about a week. Our deputy made contact with the finder, and Dax was scanned for a microchip, but unfortunately, no chip was found and no owner ever came forward. He was safely transported to the shelter, where he's now patiently waiting for the next chapter of his life to begin. Dax is an energetic, loving pup who isn't letting his unexpected start slow him down. He's looking on the bright side and hoping his forever family is right around the corner! Pogo here! I can’t tell you how relieved I am to be sitting in the safety of the shelter! Whew! I really didn’t care to be out in the cold and rain with no food or shelter! Bummer!! Anyway I was never claimed by my owners and I am now available for adoption. I am a one-year-old retriever mix. I have all of my vaccinations, I am heartworm negative, I have a microchip, and I have been neutered. When I was given my behavior tests I passed with flying colors with other dogs! I am a nice small to medium size boy that would be happy to fit into your home and become an important part of your family!
