Story
Jet is a 4.5 year old, 70ish lb, male Golden Retriever who came to GRRAND mid-March 2025. looking for a home where he is the only dog, no cats and no kids under the age of 16. His family has made the very hard decision to re-home Jet as his resource guarding is a concern with kids around for fear of the unknown. He displayed resource guarding behaviours and has been with a behaviorist since intake. We are now ready to provide more training for Jet once we have an experienced dog owner home willing to work with the trainer and Jet. However, he is able to safely participate in structured daycare settings and supervised dog meetups, provided no toys or high-value resources are present. Jett is a dog who requires clear structure, consistency, and informed handling. With proper management and adherence to protocol, he is capable of living a stable, safe, and fulfilled life in the appropriate home. Our trainer will work with you to aid in a successful transition into your home. Jet is house-trained, crate-trained and usually went to work daily with his person, so he was not left home alone much. We are told "He has had obedience training and he knows all the basic commands and a few fun ones. Jet resource guards toys and we have tried numerous training for the resource guarding, but have had no luck. He is really chill and happy, and likes to run in the yard and smell around." GRRAND is still learning about Jet, but if you would like to inquire about him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2397614##

Story
Ben is a handsome 15 month old neutered male Golden Retriever weighing 70 lbs. He is looking for a person or couple that can give him lots of exercise, attention and direction as that is what a young boy like him thrives on and needs! He will need a dog savvy owner with the time to work with him and be willing to not crate him as he was left in a crate long hours a day, and after time, when his owners would put him in the crate, he started to get grumpy, so needless to say, Ben does not like crates! He is a young active dog who needs plenty of fun daily energy outlets, as a tired pup is a good pup!   We have sent Ben to a trainer as he can get over excited and mouthy. The trainer will work with his new owner on how to control Ben's overly excitable behavior. Ben will need to go to an active home with a fully secure fenced back yard, no children, and probably no other dogs. He knows some basic commands and enjoys the GRRAND pool. Ben does well at the kennel, and the kennel volunteers love him; he craves attention and wants to play and be petted constantly.  Ben may have seasonal allergies and may be allergic to chicken, so he is eating Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin dog food just in case, but it was never confirmed. We are also told he has a significant fear of vacuums and brooms.   If you have the time, energy and patience to work with this beautiful young boy, please apply to foster or adopt Ben at GRRAND.org       ##2720681##

Story
Halo is a beautiful 10 month old, 65 lb, female Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix looking for her forever family that is happy to have a VELCRO dog around (VELCRO being an understatement!) She is new to GRRAND, and just in a foster home and this is what they are telling us: "Halo is adjusting well and very much a joy to have in the home. She is good with other dogs and has not been around cats that I am aware of. She is slowly figuring things out and doesn’t act like she has ever been in a home before. She is slowly adjusting to the TV being on, and mirrors or anything with her reflection are surprising. Halo has grown to love her dog bed and she is potty trained, despite seeming like she was very unfamiliar with a home. This beauty is very docile and submissive and loves pets and treats! Although docile, Halo is very smart and tries to open doors! She wants to be with her people so closed doors do not make her happy as she is very much a VELCRO dog!She has been going inside a crate set up for her, but she has not been closed in it yet, however she has chosen to nap inside it, curled up in a blanket with the door open, and she has started napping on the couch, but has not gotten on the human bed."  Halo prefers that someone be home with her more than not, as she just really relies on her people during her adjustment period to her new surroundings. Where you are, she is... when you are on the couch, she is on the couch and on YOU too! LOL! She is super snuggly and loving and needing some confidence building. Her family will need to have the time and patience to work with a puppy and give her plenty of exercise and direction as we want her to be a well behaved dog! A tired puppy is a good puppy! As we learn more, we will update on Halo so please check back later for more info, but if you would like to meet her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2812974##

Story
Nuggie is a 1 year old, male Golden Retriever looking for a pretty specific type of home, so please read carefully before applying! This pup is needing an experienced ADULT ONLY household with no visiting young kids or grandkids as he has a history of resource-guarding, and this is not anything to take lightly even with Nuggie being so young. He is doing better now, but Nuggie is still in the working stages and GRRAND is being very careful with where Nuggie is placed. He will NOT be considered for any family with kids, so please understand.  Nuggie is a beautiful Golden. He has been a perfect gentleman at the kennel with both volunteers and other puppy residents! However, he has had two brief visits in foster homes where he showed some dominance and resource guarding tendencies. GRRAND is willing to spend a significant amount of money to put Nuggie in a board-and-train program with a professional trainer to overcome these behaviors, but before we can do that we need a home lined up for Nuggie to go to immediately after training. It needs to be a home with experienced dog owners and no children. Nuggie is treat motivated and knows simple commands, and he MUST have a family 100% committed to training with him, and giving him plenty of structure, exercise and direction, as this is what he needs. Nuggie has been placed in a home where he resourced something as simple as a pine cone, and it was not positive. He is with GRRAND and by being where he is, he has not been given an opportunity to practice resource guarding. Practice makes perfect... he is not there, but the progress is positive and in the wrong hands, he would’ve gotten better at resource guarding, but his environment does not allow that. Today he’s well adjusted, is not resource guarding his food, plays great with a tennis ball and gives it back. He plays well with other dogs, and has been socialized with a variety of different people and is getting worked with everyday. He is a good boy, and the goal is to make sure he is ready for his forever home. He will need an above ground secure fenced yard to romp and play in in a safe environment. He is very trainable as he likes it and responds well to it and he is also house-trained and crate-trained. This is an opportunity to truly 'rescue' a dog, and in return you will get a beautiful, well trained Golden. We are still learning about Nuggie, but if you feel you are that adult dog savvy person who has the time and patience and are fully committed to keep up with Nuggie's training, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2528850##

Story
This is Ella Brooke. She is a petite (at just 39lbs), female Golden Retriever mix at under a year of age. Some dogs walk into a room with confidence, and others quietly look for a kind hand to tell them everything is going to be okay... Ella Brooke is the second kind. Ella needs a home with an above ground fenced yard as she is a real flight risk due to her fearfulness and we believe that she will do best with another confident dog in the home to help show her the ropes and help build her own confidence. Right now, only a few kennel volunteers are able to pet her, so she is certainly a work in progress.  This beautiful cream-colored girl, with her soft wavy coat and gentle brown eyes, came to us from one of the most overwhelmed shelters in Kentucky. Located in a very rural part of southeastern Kentucky, this shelter serves four counties and faces challenges few shelters should ever have to face. Through no fault of her own, Ella Brooke found herself surrendered there, frightened and unsure of what came next. At just about 2 years old and a petite 39 pounds, Ella Brooke spent her time at the shelter doing her best to stay close to the people she trusted. While the barking, noise, and chaos swirled around her, she wasn’t worried about the other dogs—she simply wanted the comfort and reassurance of a human nearby. Shelter staff and volunteers lovingly describe her as “sweet as pie,” and it doesn’t take long to see why. Ella Brooke is still learning that the world can be a safe place. She’ll need a patient family willing to give her time to settle in, build confidence, and discover who she is outside the shelter walls. As she realizes she’s finally safe, we expect her personality to blossom more and more each day. With that, she will require a few meet and greets, and she is located in LVL, and she will not be the dog that you meet one time and she goes home with you. The interested family will need to make multiple trips to the kennel to begin the bonding process before Ella can be taken into a home. Her name carries a special story, too. We already had a few Ellas, so this sweet girl became Ella Brooke, named in honor of the dedicated shelter volunteer who reached out for help and works tirelessly for the animals and shelter. It felt only fitting that this deserving girl carry the name of someone who cared enough to help change her future. Now Ella Brooke has arrived at GRRAND, and for the first time, her happily-ever-after, feels within reach. Could you be the family she’s been waiting for? The one who shows her that soft beds, gentle words, and unconditional love are here to stay? Ella Brooke has spent enough time wondering what comes next, and we’re hoping the next chapter is with you! If you would like to meet Ella Brook, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2754437##

Story
Beau is a 1.5 year old, 85ish lb male Golden Retriever looking for an adult only, no other dog savvy household. (no kids or grandkids) He will need a committed family to give him the exercise and training he needs to help work with his resource guarding tendencies. His family has had to surrender Beau as we are told: "Beau is such a sweet boy and we are devastated to rehome him, he just needs more training than we can give him now, and we can’t trust him around our baby." He is said to be allergic to chicken, so no foods with chicken for this guy, and he currently eats a lamb and rice blend of food. Beau is house-trained and crate-trained and sleeps in his crate at night and when his people would leave the house. We are still learning about Beau, but if you would like to meet him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2711088##
