Story
A mama dog left 5 puppies on our property last year. We found homes for three of them and kept two females. They are sweet, highly bonded, housebroken, and great pets. Unfortunately just recently , Belle started showing litter mate syndrome and resource guarding with her sister. Belle has always been a great dog this new behavior just arose in the past couple weeks... we recently moved from out of state after my spouse passed away. The dogs were transported open kennel from California to Texas and then resided for a few weeks at an area dog ranch while we were closing on our new home. She loves everyone but especially men... she's sweet and smart. I'm saddened by this condition that has affected our pups and am hopeful that she will be adopted quickly into a new home. Thank you for your consideration and would love for you to meet our Belle.

Story
Charley is an easygoing, thoughtful girl who has settled beautifully into her foster home. After nearly a decade in one home, she’s taken this big life transition in stride; within minutes of walking into her current foster home, she was relaxing, following the household routine, and coexisting peacefully with resident dogs and cats. She enjoys being near her people, joining in on “pack” walks, and soaking up the simple comforts of home life. Charley is a friendly dog who seeks out connection, but she prefers a respectful, consent-based approach to touch. She’s shown that she’s most comfortable with gentle, predictable interactions and does best when her boundaries, especially around her neck and while eating, are honored. In her foster home, she’s been calm and easy to live with, including during mealtimes when given appropriate space. She is reliably house-trained with no accidents and walks nicely on leash, making her a smooth addition to a daily routine. Charley will thrive with an experienced, patient adopter who understands dog body language and is comfortable managing mild resource guarding and touch sensitivity. In return, she offers loyalty, companionship, and a genuinely sweet nature that shines when she feels safe and understood. She’s a great match for a quieter home without young children, where she can continue to relax and be appreciated for the wonderful dog she is.

Story
Earlier this summer Falkor made his way over to Austin Pets Alive! after likely being hit by a car. With great medical care, Falkor is on the mend, though with only three legs now! A tripod gets around as well as a quad-pod, even on stairs! Despite everything, Falkor’s spirit shines though! This gentle giant has a heart as soft as his fur. Mellow and easy-going, Falkor is the kind of dog who just wants a cozy corner, a loving hand for head pats and scritches. In his foster home, he's living with another tripod alumni and other canine and feline companions! Physically Falkor is well on the mend and now he's ready for his heart's desire-a home of his very own!

Hi, I'm new to Austin and am looking forward to meeting a foster or adopter to help show me around! My friends at APA might not know a ton about me just yet, but you could help them get valuable notes by offering to take me on a sleepover for a few days. Please stop by the shelter to meet me today!

Story
Guss, a very lovable dog, loves to snuggle up in your lap and rest his entire body on yours. However, he can be quite demanding at times for this affection and will often not accept no until you shower him with love. His parents are our first dogs: an English bulldog (his mother) and a golden retriever. He was born in the first litter. When our bulldog had her second litter, she had one pup that we also kept, named Hank. When Hank was just a puppy, Guss got jealous and attacked him. Hank was fine, but it clearly left an impression on Guss. Now, whenever Guss is around, Hank growls at him. Guss tries very hard to ignore Hank, but it eventually gets the better of them, and they fight. Despite this, both of them are great with other dogs. They just truly hate each other.I believe Guss would be fine with other dogs, but I think it would be best for him if he was the only dog. This way, he can get the attention and affection that he deserves. He is great with our ferrets
