Story
Hi there! My name is Goose! My mama belonged to a family whose dog unexpectedly had puppies. Mom was a doodle mix, and my dad was a big, handsome white Labrador Retriever. If you’ve seen my pictures, you’ll notice I definitely take after Dad.
Right now, I’m living with an awesome foster family. My foster dad is a pastor, and he, his wife, and their kids have been teaching me all about how to be the best family dog possible.
One of my favorite things in the world is greeting my people when they come home. I keep a bucket of chew toys right by the front door, and every time I see someone from my family pull up, I watch from the window and bark to let everyone know, “You’re home!” Then I jump off the couch, run to my toy bucket, and pick out a chew toy before racing to the door to welcome them. I have a pretty important expectation, too: once you’re inside, you’re supposed to take my toy and play a quick game of fetch with me!
Sometimes, instead of fetch, I’ll roll right over onto my back—with my toy still in my mouth—and ask for belly rubs. I absolutely LOVE belly rubs.
Now let’s talk about my favorite thing in the entire world: water. Seriously, if there’s water, I want to be in it.
Ponds? Yes.
Lakes? Absolutely.
Pools? Count me in.
Sprinklers? Fantastic.
Decorative fountains? Well… apparently those aren’t always intended for dogs, but on a really hot day during my photo shoot, I decided one looked too inviting to pass up. It was glorious.
My second favorite thing is fetch. If you combine fetch and water, you’ve basically created heaven as far as I’m concerned.
I’m also a huge fan of car rides. Most dogs like sticking their heads out the window, and I do too, but I’ve discovered something almost as good. Sometimes I stick my nose right in front of the air-conditioning vent and enjoy the amazing smells floating through the car.
I’m also a pretty patient guy. In fact, I’ve been known to sit completely still while my 13-year-old human brushes me.
Now, I should probably tell you about my relationship with duck. My foster family is pretty strict about manners. We don’t beg at the dinner table in this house, and I’m pretty good at being polite. Sometimes, when my foster dad has a successful hunting trip, I get a little taste of the good things. That’s when I discovered that I may have a very refined palate.
You could even say I’m a duck connoisseur, even if it is raw. Unfortunately, my appreciation for fine dining once got me into a little trouble. You see, my foster dad was preparing dinner one day and had 20 duck breasts sitting on the counter. Twenty. He stepped away for just a little while and forgot to push them back far enough. When he returned, there were only three left. I now understand that counters are not self-serve buffets. I’ve been working on my manners ever since.
What I’m really looking for now is a forever family of my very own—a family that will love me, laugh at my goofy stories, throw a ball for me, and maybe share a little duck every now and then and give me opportunities to swim or not mind if I take on a big puddle.
Hope you will ask to meet me!
~Goose~
