Story
Greetings, loyal subjects.
Allow me to introduce myself properly. My name is Sir Duke.
Now, I should mention that when I first arrived at rescue, there was some discussion about calling me Angus. A fine name, certainly. But after spending approximately three minutes in my presence, everyone agreed it simply wouldn't do. They said I was far too handsome, far too majestic, and far too distinguished for an ordinary name. And so, I was officially knighted as Sir Duke. I do believe they made the correct decision.
Earlier this year, my story wasn't nearly so grand. I was left behind by people who weren't taking care of me. Without going into all the unpleasant details, let's just say I was in rough shape. I had clearly missed out on a lot of the love and care every dog deserves. Then something wonderful happened. I landed in a foster home. For perhaps the first time in my life, people started showing me what it feels like to be truly loved. They gave me a soft place to rest, kind hands to pet me, and patience while I learned that humans could actually be trusted.
Every day, I'm discovering new things that make life pretty amazing. For example, sleeping at the foot of the bed is absolutely delightful. Dog pillows? A magnificent invention. Being told I'm handsome several times a day? I highly recommend it.
But if there is one thing you should know about me, it is this: I love balls. Not just a little. Not even a lot. I LOVE balls. In fact, if I'm carrying one around and you offer me the most delicious treat in the world, there's a very good chance I'll politely decline. Why trade perfection for a snack? When I've got a ball, life is already pretty close to perfect.
My foster family also likes to brag about my manners. One evening, my foster mom was eating enchiladas. Not only were they delicious-smelling enchiladas, they were sitting at exactly nose level. The temptation was tremendous. Did I steal one? I did not. Did I even try? Also no. I simply walked by like the gentleman I am while everyone stared at me in amazement. Personally, I thought that was standard knightly behavior.
I also enjoy car rides and make an excellent passenger. Whether we're headed across town or out on an adventure, I'm always ready to ride. On walks, I carry myself with the grace and dignity expected of someone with a title. My leash manners are excellent, and I enjoy taking in the sights while staying right by your side.
The people who know me best say that while I'm a beautiful dog on the outside, it's my spirit that makes me special. Beneath all this handsome good looks and royal charm is a gentle soul who simply wants to be loved.
I've spent enough of my life wondering if anyone cared about me. Now I'm ready for a family who will never leave me questioning that again.
I hope you will ask to meet me.
Respectfully yours,
Sir Duke
