Story
We adopted Louie from the Nashville Humane Society September 2022. They guessed he was 2 years old, but we think he might have been a little younger. He is very sweet and loving, medium-high energy, but loves to relax as well. With our current schedule he is at home in a crate most of the day and we think he would do better with someone that had more time for him. He's good with kids and other dogs. He's just big, energetic and would thrive in a more active home.He is house trained and crate trained. He knows sit, lay down, shake, and stay.We recently got a kitten and his excitement seems like a a lot for the kitten. His big energy doesn't mesh well with the new kitten. We have a large metal crate that can go with him as well.

Story
Loki is a 9-year-old Goldendoodle who has been part of our family since he was four months old. He has spent his entire life around young children and is house trained, affectionate, friendly, and a little goofy. He believes everyone he meets wants to love on him and is happy to oblige! He loves treats, playing outside, snuggling on the couch, and being pampered at the groomer. Loki has severe anxiety surrounding thunderstorms and fireworks and may become destructive when panicked. We have worked with his veterinarian and tried daily and situational medications, a ThunderShirt, white noise, and safe spaces. My increasingly demanding job no longer allows me to reliably be home during storms to provide the supervision he needs. Rehoming him is incredibly difficult, but we hope to find someone whose lifestyle can accommodate his anxiety and give this sweet, goofy boy all the love he deserves.

Story
Becky with the BangsMeet Becky with the Bangs ❤️🐾Becky is one of six dogs who were transferred to us after the USDA shut down a breeding operation in Ohio. We were not part of the initial rescue, but we are honored to now be part of Becky's journey and help her discover the life she should have always known.Becky is 5 years old, and sadly, she was never properly socialized. Human touch seems completely foreign to her. The simple things we often take for granted—being gently petted, receiving affection, being handled with kindness, or simply sitting beside a person—are all new experiences for her.We don't know everything Becky endured or what her life looked like before rescue, but we do know that she was not given the opportunity to learn that humans can be safe and loving.Because of this, Becky needs a very patient, calm, and understanding home. She isn't a dog who will immediately run up for cuddles or know how to accept affection. Her new family will need to give her time, respect her boundaries, and celebrate the little victories along the way.And those little victories will mean everything. ❤️Becky came to us with Kevin with the Curls, another mini doodle from the same case. They don't necessarily need to be adopted together, but Becky would do best with another friendly, confident dog who can help her feel secure and teach her that life can be good.Becky is 5 years old, spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations. She has spent her life without the love and socialization every dog deserves. Now, she finally has a chance to learn what it feels like to be someone's cherished companion.Becky doesn't need someone to rush her. She needs someone willing to wait for her.Someone who understands that trust takes time.Someone who will let her discover human touch at her own pace.Someone who will show her, every single day, that she is finally safe. 🏡❤️Becky's new life starts now. And we can't wait to see the girl she becomes. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Meet Artie ❤️If you're looking for a best friend who's equal parts goofy, loving, adventurous, and adorable, Artie may just be your perfect match.Artie came to DeKalb Humane Society from the amazing team at Shadarobah, who worked incredibly hard to help this sweet boy and give him the fresh start he deserves. He was transferred to us in hopes of finding his perfect forever family, and we're excited to help him get there. This handsome wire-haired mixed breed has the sweetest soul and a personality that shines once he gets comfortable. Artie loves spending time with his people, exploring the outdoors, running zoomies through the yard, and rolling dramatically in the dirt like it's his full-time job. He finds joy in the simple things—sunshine, fresh air, muddy paws, and a good belly rub. While Artie is incredibly loving with the people he knows and trusts, he can be nervous around new people and busy environments. Because of this, he would do best in a quieter, lower-traffic home where he can take his time getting comfortable. Artie isn't the type of dog who wants to meet every stranger right away—he prefers slow introductions and a chance to build trust at his own pace. Once he feels safe, his affectionate and playful personality truly shines.Artie would thrive with a family who understands that not every dog is a social butterfly and is willing to help him navigate new situations with patience and encouragement. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who forms deep bonds and loves wholeheartedly. He also loves spending time outdoors and would be thrilled to have a family that enjoys adventures as much as he does. And while he may come home a little dusty from his explorations, that scruffy coat is part of his charm! Because of his unique wire-haired coat, Artie will need regular grooming or a family willing to keep up with his coat care to keep him comfortable and looking handsome. If you're searching for a devoted companion with a goofy personality, a loving heart, and the cutest scruffy face around, Artie is waiting to meet you. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
Kevin with the Curls — 368-266-year-old Miniature Poodle | MaleKevin with the Curls is one of nearly 100 dogs recently rescued from a large-scale breeder/puppy mill situation. Right now, Kevin is very scared and unsure of the world around him. The sights, sounds, handling, and routines of normal home life may all be completely new to him.Kevin is looking for a quiet, calm home with a patient adopter who will let him move at his own pace. He may need time before he feels comfortable seeking affection, exploring his surroundings, or trusting the people caring for him. His new family should be prepared to celebrate the small victories — choosing to come a little closer, relaxing in the same room, or simply realizing that he is finally safe.Kevin does not need someone expecting an instant lap dog. He needs someone willing to give him time, consistency, kindness, and the space to discover what being a beloved companion can feel like. For the right person, watching Kevin slowly learn to trust could be an incredibly special journey. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00
