He came to PACC as a stray and was diagnosed with both Valley Fever and tick fever. Sadly, a large Valley Fever lesion has significantly affected one of his legs, making walking difficult. Our veterinary team is urgently pleading for placement so Woody can get the time, comfort, and care he needs to heal.Recovering from a medical condition while confined to a kennel, surrounded by the constant noise of hundreds of barking dogs, isn`t ideal. Woody deserves so much more than that. In a home, he could rest comfortably, enjoy fresh air, take slow walks at his own pace, and begin building a bond with someone who cares about him.Bone lesions like Woody’s can occur with Valley Fever, although his is unusually large. With time and medication, these lesions can improve, potentially allowing him to regain more mobility. Depending on his progress, amputation may also be a possibility.Despite everything he is going through, Woody has been calm and sweet with staff, though a little shy. He enjoys his leisurely walks outside and the opportunity to breathe in some fresh air. We don`t yet know how he does with other dogs or cats, so any placement would need to take that into consideration.PACC is caring for approximately 500 dogs, and keeping Woody in the clinic long-term is a difficult decision when healthy dogs are also facing deadlines. Woody is vulnerable, hurting, and in need of a safe place to recover, we would like to give him this chance in a comfortable home. Foster/Adoption/Rescue Process:All interested parties must meet the dog at PACC before their deadline. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with. Once introductions are complete and if the IP has decided this dog may be a good fit, the process is as follows:Interested parties:• Must visit PACC before the deadline to meet with an adoption counselor who will go over notes and introduce you to the dog.• Are encouraged to reach out to a rescue group ASAP (even before coming to PACC), to start the rescue approval process. Please have the rescue contact PACC at PACC.medicalfoster@pima.gov if approved to pull.• If an IP has not already contacted a rescue, PACC will notify all partnered rescue groups of an interested party and request their assistance. Once you have come to PACC to meet with the dog and determined that you’d like to move forward, your information will be sent to partnered rescue groups. If a rescue group is interested and feels they may be able to pull, they will then reach out to IPs. Collaboration with Rescue Groups:• Rescue groups are encouraged to reach out to PACC immediately if they will pull this animal into their rescue (and if there are requirements: Interested adoptive party, spay/neuter if not already completed, etc.)• Rescue groups are encouraged to start their adoption process with any interested parties who have contacted them directly and email PACC at PACC.medicalfoster@pima.gov.Please note that it is ultimately up to the rescue group`s discretion to decide whether to proceed with adoption.
