Story
Meet Moose, a 5-year-old Harlequin Great Dane with a heart (and bark!) as big as he is. When Moose arrived, he was living in rough conditions and weighed just 85 pounds — far below the healthy 120-150 pounds a Dane should be. With good care, love, and groceries, he’s been steadily gaining strength and confidence. Moose is a big dog with a big personality. He’s vocal and expressive, never shy about letting you know when it’s time for dinner or play. Beneath that deep bark is a gentle giant who loves rough-and-tumble play, tug-of-war, and quality time with his favorite people. Moose is looking for an experienced large-breed owner who understands the full “big dog package.” His adoption fee covers his vaccines, neuter, microchip, and health testing. If you’re ready for a loyal companion with plenty of love (and volume) to give — Moose is your guy.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sequoia and her adorable 8 littermates are a Great Dane/Rottweiler mix, and we also have a picture of their parents posted here on their profile.  The puppies have all been given "National Park" themed names!  They are from a local Iowa County family that had an accidental litter, and they recently reached out to Safe Haven asking for help with their 9 puppies that were born on 11/03/2025. There are 5 males and 4 females - with 7 of the puppies being black and 2 being tan.  We think they are all incredibly adorable and sweet, but suspect the two tan puppies will be chosen quickly - there is one male (Rocky) and one female (Sierra). These puppies have definitely been very well cared for and socialized, and came into Safe Haven on 12/17 to be examined by our veterinarian and receive their initial set of (6 week old) puppy vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip.  They returned to their home for now to continue nursing for a few more weeks and get proper socialization from their mom.  On January 1st they will return to Safe Haven for a puppy vaccine booster, as well as a kennel cough vaccine, another round of deworming, monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative - and at this point the puppies will be just over 8 weeks old and will be weaned and be ready for adoption.  We are starting the process now of finding adoptive families in hopes that they will be able to go home soon after the first of the year.   Due to these puppies being a large breed puppy mix they will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract - which means their adoptive families will sign a contract stating the puppies will be spayed/neutered by the time they are 9 months old. Families will be required to bring their puppy back to Safe Haven for us to spay/neuter when the puppy is between 6 to 9 months old, at no additional cost. The other option for each adoptive family would be to have the surgery done with their veterinarian at the family's own cost, and provide us proof of that surgery once complete. The ideal adoptive family will be committed to taking a puppy obedience class to get started on the right foot - they will need a family that can commit to continue proper socialization and also all the work that goes into house-training a puppy, which requires a lot of patience and persistence with working on a schedule. Puppies need to be taken outside frequently - as often as every 3 to 4 hours in the beginning. So an ideal home for these puppies will be one where they won't have long periods of time during the day spent alone during the first few months, so they can have the best chance of successful housetraining and have years of wonderful love and devotion to focus on!  If you are interested in adopting Sequoia (one of the female black puppies) or one of her littermates, please fill out an adoption application as the first step of the adoption process.  If you know you would like a certain puppy please describe the specific puppy on the application. Once the application has been approved, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to set up the adoption. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 23, 2025, 10:18 am
