Story
🐾 Meet Ruby 🐾 Ruby’s story is one we wish had a different ending. This beautiful Great Dane x Labrador Retriever mix is approximately 4 years old, and she first came to us as a stray way back in November 2023. She waited nearly an entire year for someone to finally see what we saw in her — a sweet girl who deserved a chance. When her turn finally came, Ruby was so excited to leave the shelter and begin her forever life. And for a year, that’s exactly what we thought she had. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen health circumstances affecting her adopter, Ruby has now been returned to us. After everything she went through waiting for her first family, seeing her back in a kennel is heartbreaking. She had a home. She had her people. She thought she was finally where she belonged. And now, once again, her entire world has been turned upside down. We’ve been told that Ruby is house trained and crate trained, rides well in the car, and loves going for walks — although she does have a tendency to believe that she is the one taking you for a walk! 😆 She has also done well with other dogs in the past. Right now, Ruby is understandably nervous here at the shelter. We can hardly blame her. She has lost her home and her sense of security all over again, and she’s trying to figure out why she’s back in a place she thought she had left behind for good. But underneath that uncertainty is the same sweet girl who was so happy to finally have a family. Ruby doesn’t need someone looking for a temporary commitment. She needs someone who understands that adopting a dog means being there through life’s changes and challenges. She needs someone who can give her stability, patience, consistency, and the reassurance that this time, she really is home. We know Ruby can be a wonderful companion. She just needs someone willing and able to make that commitment to her. After waiting so long the first time, Ruby shouldn’t have to spend another year wondering when her family is coming. Let’s make sure Ruby’s next chapter is truly her forever. ❤️

Story
Meet Hila! Hila is now a 7-month-old puppy with a big future ahead of her and, despite everything she’s been through, she still has so much love to give. As for her breed mix, we're fairly confident there's some Lab, Great Pyrenees, and Great Dane in there somewhere, but after that, your guess is as good as ours! Hila originally came to us after her family made the difficult but responsible decision to surrender her. Like many young dogs, she discovered that chickens were a little too exciting, and she unfortunately decided they were more fun to chase than live alongside. Her family knew they weren't in a position to invest the time and training needed to safely manage that behavior, so they chose to give her the opportunity to find a home better suited to her needs. Hila was adopted, but unfortunately, her first forever home didn't work out. She was recently returned to us after she began digging and finding ways to get over the fence. Her adventures were becoming a neighborhood concern, with neighbors complaining and even threatening to call the police. While that's certainly not the kind of attention any dog—or shelter—wants, we can't be too hard on Hila. She's still just a 7-month-old puppy with a lot of energy, curiosity, and growing up to do, and needs someone who is capable investing in providing her the time, effort, and training she deserves. Despite her mischievous side, Hila is an incredibly sweet girl. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but it doesn't take long for her to warm up once she realizes you're a friend. Underneath that initial uncertainty is a gentle, affectionate young dog who truly wants to be close to her people. Hila has lived successfully with children and other dogs and has done well with both. She enjoys companionship and would likely appreciate having another canine friend to help show her the ropes. Because of her history with chickens, however, she will need a home without chickens or other small animals. Hila's next home will need to understand that she's still a puppy—and a BIG puppy at that! She'll need plenty of exercise and enrichment, continued training, and someone willing to be patient while she learns appropriate ways to channel all that puppy energy. A home where her people can keep a close eye on her while she's outside would be ideal. Hila has already had one adoption fall through, and we'd really love for the next one to be the one that sticks. She's not a bad dog. She's a young, curious, energetic girl who needs the right people to help her succeed. You can teach a puppy not to dig, climb, or go looking for trouble. What you can't teach is a kind disposition—and Hila already has that. She's ready to leave the shelter behind and find the patient, loving family who will give her the guidance she needs and love her through all the puppy shenanigans along the way. ❤️
