Story
Lurch
Lurch is perhaps the quintessential Great Dane. This handsome two year old boy is neutered and microchipped. He enjoys walks and play time, but above all, he loves snuggles. Whatever you’re doing, he needs to do it with you. Whether you’re watching TV or trying to cook dinner, Lurch will be at your side with his beautiful eyes and calm demeanor. He loves pets and scratches, and loves to curl up with you and share his warmth and affection. If you could choose only three words to describe him, they would be loving, trusting, and social.
Friendly, gentle, and good-natured to a fault, Lurch gets along well with both cats and dogs of all sizes and genders. He does like playing with other dogs, but sometimes needs to be coaxed into it as he prefers to interact with people and can come off as a bit aloof when around other animals.
Despite all his love, Lurch does face some challenges. Primarily, he has seizures. These were not addressed as a puppy, and it wasn’t until Lurch reached Boxers and Buddies that he got the help he needed. He is now on medication that he takes happily twice per day that keeps his seizures to a manageable minimum (although breakthrough seizures do occasionally happen).
If this was his only challenge, his current foster family would happily keep him. Unfortunately, however, Lurch is a very social dog, and his current foster parents work long and non-negotiable hours during which Lurch suffers from separation anxiety.
He has received in-depth training to help with this, but his family agrees it is not fair to him to keep him in an environment where his people are away for 12 hours a day.
Lurch would do very well with a family which can provide any of the following situations: work from home or stay at home parent, part time or flexible working hours, retirees, or doggy daycare.
