Benji came to us with a quiet heart and a whole lot of feelings. 🤍Benji is a 75-pound sweetheart who truly believes he is lap-sized, especially when the wind gets spooky and he needs a little reassurance. He'll find a seat somewhere on you and watch the world around him. His world changed when his previous owner had to make the heartbreaking decision to bring him to the shelter while going through chemotherapy. It's clear Benji was deeply loved, and this transition has been hard on everyone.Shelter life has made him nervous, but beneath that shy exterior is the sweetest soul just waiting to bloom in a home.You'll often find him cozied up on his bed with his blanket, napping peacefully or softly people-watching. In playgroups, he prefers the gentle, dainty crowd and is more of a "let's hang out" kind of guy than a rough-and-tumble player.Benji's former owner shared all the little things that make him him: ✨ loves car rides✨ enjoys fetch and catch✨ thinks snow is magical✨ likes splashing in water✨ bananas, oranges, blueberries, frozen strawberries, and ice cubes are top-tier snacks✨ will absolutely steal your food if given the chance 😅He has previously lived with a cat and did coexist, though he may chase from time to time. Squirrels and rabbits definitely catch his attention, and off leash he thinks being chased is part of the fun.Benji came to us with allergies and skin irritation, but he is healing beautifully and looking so much better every day.What he truly needs now is a soft place to land... whether that's an adoption, foster-to-adopt, or even a slumber party stay to help him build confidence and let his personality shine.If you have room in your heart and a soft spot on your couch, Benji is waiting for you in Topeka, KS.
