Story
Dog Name: QTip Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: 2-3 years old Weight: 13 pounds Medical Needs: None Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Yes Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: He’s hesitant in new places, but does well in familiar territory Energy level: Low Need a fenced in yard: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Yes Cat Friendly: Unknown Kid Friendly: Older children only If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 12 years old Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know: QTip is an adorable little sweetheart! He came to Delaware from West Virginia where he was formerly used for breeding. He is the sweetest boy and his curly coat is so soft! He loves attention. He will sit patiently while you brush or pet him and will paw at your hand to continue if you stop. Regular grooming will be necessary for QTip to keep his coat in good shape. QTip is housebroken and always keeps his crate clean. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night in his foster mom’s room. He prefers to be out if someone is home but he’s fine to be crated during the work day as long as he can see his doggie friends. He loves his dog foster siblings and is his most confident self when they are nearby. He often looks to them for guidance and follows their lead. He’ll need a friendly pup or two that are around his size in his forever home so they can show him the ropes. A securely fenced in yard is a must. Until he trusts his new family members, he might hesitate to come to you when called. Once he’s comfortable with you, he will be your shadow and will come running from wherever he is, inside or outside, when you call him. He is shy and hesitant at first around new people and doesn’t like loud noises or sudden movements. He likes to be near his people and he really loves it when people pet him. He is a great companion and will sit on your lap or next to you on the couch all day! Since QTip does not like loud noises or sudden movements, he shouldn’t be placed with children under 12. He wags his tail when he sees children, but is terrified when they run around. If your pack needs another member, QTip would love to join you! Story
Somebody get me out of this old age home! That’s what Boomer is saying about his stay here. Boomer is a very healthy, playful, and active 11-year-old Havanese/Terrier mix. While the other dogs who live here are happy to nap the day away, Boomer loves to run and go for long walks. He really needs to find a great new home who can give him the time and exercise he would like. He is friendly with other dogs when outside but he can be quite territorial in the house. Therefore, we are looking for a home with no other animals. Boomer came to us after he was surrendered by his owner to the shelter. His owner said he didn’t like children, so adults-only homes please. During Boomer’s behavior test at the shelter, he showed signs of resource guarding for food and toys. We have worked with him on that but his new home must know how to continue this training. We are hoping to find the ideal home for Boomer. We learned that his previous owner was physically and verbally abusive to him. As a result, Boomer can be fearful at times. If he thinks he’s going to be scolded, he retreats to the sofa or a corner. He needs a new home that will be patient and loving with him, as well as knowledgeable on how to deal with his behavior challenges. If any force is used on him, he will try to protect himself. Boomer is smart. He knows how to sit, stay, and come, and also gives kisses on command. He really wants to be a loving, trusting dog. He has come a long way since he arrived here. Are you the new person he is looking for to give him his happy, forever after? Please complete an adoption application found at https://www.flfosenioranimals.org/adoption and note that we only adopt within 40 miles of Baldwin, MD, as we must do in-person home visits.
