Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Landenberg, Pennsylvania for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Sweet little Carmela has been through quite the journey, but her gentle heart and loving spirit shine through every day.  Carmela came to us from a local shelter after being found as a stray. She had a large open mammary mass that needed immediate care. Thankfully, she received the treatment she needed — a mass removal, dental cleaning, and spay — and we’re so happy to share that her mass was benign! She’s now fully recovered and ready to enjoy her golden years in a loving forever home. This lovely lady is starting to come out of her shell more each day. She enjoys going for walks, exploring the yard, and curling up for snuggles on your lap. She’s also happy to find a cozy bed for some solo nap time — the perfect mix of affectionate and independent!  Carmela is doing well with her potty training and just needs a consistent schedule to stay on track. She eats soft food (she only has a few teeth left, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit!) and has no trouble with stairs. She gets along great with other dogs and would do well in a calm, loving home. Wiggles is a 7 year old spayed female havanese who weighs 11 pounds. This adorable little girl was rescued from poor conditions and we cannot imagine what she has been through. She is a bit shy to start, but has started to wiggle when she gets happy, had her first zoom around the yard and we cannot wait for her to be spoiled rotten. She has tested great with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced in yard for her safety. It does not seem that she has ever been on a leash, but we promised that she has no worries from here on out. hi Bess, this pretty lady is a 9 year old Havanese. She was surrendered to us by a commercial breeder when they no longer wanted her. She is 15 lbs. After a long time at the puppy mill, it is not surprising that Bess came to us very scared and nervous. While she allows all handling, she is a sensitive girl that needs time to open up and feel more comfortable. Despite that, she does well in playgroups with other little dogs and will cuddle up on a volunteer's lap when she needs a rest. She is hoping for a loving and patient home that will continue working on her confidence. She would also like a home with another dog that is social and friendly so she could model those behaviors after them. She will come spayed, vaccinated, 4dx tested and microchipped. Somebody get me out of this old age home! That’s what Boomer is saying about his stay here. Boomer is a very healthy, playful, and active 11-year-old Havanese/Terrier mix. While the other dogs who live here are happy to nap the day away, Boomer loves to run and go for long walks. He really needs to find a great new home who can give him the time and exercise he would like. He is friendly with other dogs when outside but he can be quite territorial in the house. Therefore, we are looking for a home with no other animals. Boomer came to us after he was surrendered by his owner to the shelter. His owner said he didn’t like children, so adults-only homes please. During Boomer’s behavior test at the shelter, he showed signs of resource guarding for food and toys. We have worked with him on that but his new home must know how to continue this training. We are hoping to find the ideal home for Boomer. We learned that his previous owner was physically and verbally abusive to him. As a result, Boomer can be fearful at times. If he thinks he’s going to be scolded, he retreats to the sofa or a corner. He needs a new home that will be patient and loving with him, as well as knowledgeable on how to deal with his behavior challenges. If any force is used on him, he will try to protect himself. Boomer is smart. He knows how to sit, stay, and come, and also gives kisses on command. He really wants to be a loving, trusting dog. He has come a long way since he arrived here.
