HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Cindy at cgerke@arl-iowa.org.---- This cat came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and handling that cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, he will be fearful in new environments and around new people, and will need months of acclimation time to feel safe in a home - He may never enjoy being picked up or held - he will be a "companion" cat for someone who wants a cat to love and care for and is okay not having an affectionate lap cat- Looking for a patient adopter who will give him extra time to adjust and understand that he will hide at first; that he will need patience when introducing grooming, carriers and veterinary visits; and that a relationship with him will likely be built on trust and routine, rather than physical affection- Has lived with other cats his entire life and may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help him feel more secure and show her the ropes in a home environment- Will do best in a quiet, mature, predictable home with a cat-savvy adopter who understands undersocialized or fearful cats; while progress may be slow, it will be so rewarding to watch this cat open up, build trust with his people and ultimately thrive - Children are not a good fit for this cat, and he will thrive in a mature home in a very calm, predictable, quiet environment - Please plan on starting him in one room of your home and giving him quite a bit of time (possibly months) to become comfortable with that area and with you before allowing him access to larger areas of the home; this process will help set him up for success by not overwhelming himAll adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Black Weight: 7.5 Age: 2yrs 0mths 1wks
