Story
Missy is a 1-year-old, 36-pound black Lab/Golden Retriever mix with a sleek, shiny black coat and the sweetest petite frame. She may be small in size, but her heart is full of quiet potential.
Missy can be nervous around new people and will need a patient, understanding adopter who will let her move at her own pace. With time, consistency, and kindness, she continues to make progress and build trust.
While people can be intimidating, other dogs are her comfort zone. Missy absolutely loves canine companions and gains so much confidence from the dogs in her foster home. A calm, friendly resident dog will be very important for her continued growth and happiness.
And here’s the sweetest part — when it’s just her and her dog friends, her silly side comes out! Missy will toss toys up into the air all by herself and roll around on the bed, wiggling on her back without a care in the world. Seeing her feel that safe and joyful is truly special.
Missy is looking for a quiet, patient home with another confident dog and humans who understand that love sometimes starts softly. With time, she will blossom into a deeply loyal and devoted companion.

All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. Records are sent via email. Paper versions are available upon request.

After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below:
Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey.
A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below)
The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location.
Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier.
If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!:
Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720).
Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH! representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart – Bloomington, IL:
Park in the PetSmart (1606 E. Empire St.) Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH! representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
If your adoption is scheduled at the Cat’s Meow Cafe:
Navigate to PetSmart, park in the parking lot and enter the store. Locate a PCH! Representative at our adoption table and let them know you are picking up a Cat Cafe Cat. You will sign your final contract with your counselor and snap a picture of the completed screen. Head to the Cat’s Meow Cafe at 507 N. Hershey Rd and provide them with the snapshot of your final contract. They will get your cat and take a “Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family.
PCH! supports a 30-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we cannot provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options:
Exchange for a pet that may be a better match**
Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee**
