Story
We are considering rehoming our dog as we cannot give him the time, exercise, and training he deserves with our current work, travel, and extracurricular schedules.Charley is a 4 year old, neutered male boxer/husky (we think) mix. Charley follows simple commands and is food motivated in training. He is not currently kennel trained, but probably could be with time and effort. Charley loves his people and has significant anxiety. His heckles (hair on his back) is very prominent and he can appear aggressive to other dogs or people who are not familiar with him, even when he is not actually aggressive. He does get defensive when approached by dogs or people and he is on leash, so Charley ideally needs to live in the country or woods where he can play outside (he does not run away) or with a fenced in yard if in the city. Charley enjoys going on runs and can run for up to 6 miles comfortably. Homes with children under the age of 12 will not be considered. He is great with our child, but gets overly excited when there is commotion and can be overwhelming for little people or people who don't like dogs. His ideal owners would be active people, bonus for people who may work from home or be retired as currently he is living in a work from home situation.**Charley is NOT at UPAWS** If interested please contact:kara.graci@gmail.com or (906) 360-5774Interested persons must be able to provide at least 2 references who can speak to pet ownership and training experiences of the prospective owner.

Story
This is Scarlett. This 1 ½-year-old small, sweet, funny, tough, brave girl is looking for a very special home. Scarlett came to us from a person in Detroit who had found her and thought she had been hit by a car due to some mobility issues. We took her in and found out she had not been hit by a car but had a neurological issue. Scarlett has Polyneuropathy or SHPN1. This is a rare condition, and it's only found in Siberians. It affects mobility with weakness and can cause tremors. Scarlett only suffers from minor tremors at this time. Due to this, Scarlett needs some extra TLC and some assistance with her mobility.Don't think this condition slows this little lady down; she can, and loves, to hang with the big dogs. She needs to be monitored so she doesn't overdo it. Her body may be a little weak, but her mind is strong! She loves all dogs and enjoys being outdoors to play with her pack or hang out; in the winter, she will need some gear to keep her warm as she does not have the usual Husky coat. She is quite the talker and will even sing along with Alexa when the mood strikes her. She loves one soft toy to nibble and sniff, and a snuffy mat is one of her favorite pastimes. She can be picky about food and treats, but we have a list of her preferences. She can grumble when other dogs get near her food bowl, but it's all talk. She likes to play for exercise, but she really likes to take walks. Given her condition, she has a stroller she rides in, much like the princess she is, and while she doesn't want other dogs too close to it, she loves to be out and about. This is great mental stimulation for her. Scarlett loves attention, petting, and all the affection she can get. She does flinch a bit when being petted, which could be part of her condition. She will require a mostly carpeted home or a home with many rugs. She can't handle wood floors as she slips. She is also unable to go up or down stairs. She also needs a large foam bed to stretch out on. We know this is a lot. It takes a lot of responsibility, time commitment, and a lot of soul searching to know if she is the right dog for you, but, as her foster Mom can attest, the reward of caring for and loving Miss Scarlett can fill your heart with pride and joy. So, if you think you can give this special girl a forever home, we would love to hear from you and answer any questions. Let's show Scarlett that, frankly, my dear, we DO give a "darn"!Scarlett is in a foster home located in Clinton Twp.If you are interested in adopting, please complete and submit an adoption application. Story
Greetings all. Max here is a handsome, year-old, neutered male looking for fun! This boy has a lot of energy and loves running and playing. Human, canine, he's not picky about his playmates, although small children may not be his best choice as he may knock them down. He likes older kids who throw his toys for him and is pretty good about returning them. Max is a smart boy and would do well with the mental stimulation of training and learning tricks. He is sensitive, so primarily positive training will be most beneficial for him; maybe treat-driven training would work best. He also has shown some reactions that may indicate he was treated roughly/cruelly in the past. He does not like his collar yanked or physically being pushed or pulled to correct his behavior. Before his current foster home, he had growled and nipped at a couple of strangers who yanked on his collar, but he has NOT had any issues in his current foster home. Foster mom has been working on foot, tail, ear pulling, and mouth opening without any reaction. He also was the perfect gentleman at his last vet visit, which included a shot and expressing his anal glands. It would seem he wants to be respected. He is quite the clown when he wants attention and will stare into your eyes and put his paws on your chest for love. He also loves to snuggle and is very sweet. He does need to be crated if you leave the house, as he still has quite a bit of that puppy mischief in him. He's not destructive to furniture but will shred cardboard or plastic bags if he finds them. Max has been cat-tested and did well. So, all in all, Max is a great dog with some quirks he is working on. He does need to get his run and play on, and an active family or person would serve him best. Also, having another active, playful dog in the family would be a huge bonus. Max's foster Mom sees great potential in this boy being a great social dog and companion for the right home. Could it be you?Max is in a foster home located in Skandia, Upper PeninsulaIf you are interested in adopting, please complete and submit an adoption application. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi, I'm Rascal. I am 100% living up to my name. I am about 6 years old and a very special boy with some quirks that will take a lot of patience.People haven't always been nice to me, and that frightens me. It takes me time to warm up to new people. While warming up to them, I try to scare them away by growling. I have never bitten, but I have thought about it, and I will give you all the signs that I will. So, as a precaution, my foster mom has a muzzle that she likes to have me wear while meeting new people until we all become comfortable. It's so hard to read when meeting new people. I will run up to them and ask for love and pets while I growl at the same time. I kind of sound like the Tasmanian devil. My tail is wagging the whole time, and I am asking for attention, but it's cut short when I start growling. With the muzzle, we could get past that faster. You should pay attention to these signs. Being like this, I should be in a home without any children living there or visiting. I am not housebroken and need someone with the patience and time to help me. I am scared easily and need that gentle person who will teach me with a kind voice.I love being outside; if it's nice, I spend hours playing with my fur family. I am cat-friendly and love to play with other dogs. But sometimes, I'm a little too playful. I also like to try to mount other dogs. But I take corrections from the other dog well and will stop. This Tasmanian Devil sound I make sometimes makes it hard to read me. You don't know if I'm growling, playing, or enjoying what you're doing. You will have to learn to read my other cues. Is my tail wagging? If yes, I like what we are doing. Am I licking my lips (even if my tail is wagging)? If yes, I don't like what we are doing. Please stop now.You can tell me no, but you should never punish my growl. You want me to growl so you know when I have had enough. All I need is a break. Once I know what you want, I will try to do it. I sit for food and treats but have yet to learn to stay or wait. I'm trying, but I get excited about my food. I LOVE food and treats. I also like chewy toys. Mostly hard plastic bones. I'm also trying to learn not to jump. I like to jump up with all four feet leaving the floor. My foster mom is working on this, and I am improving. So, if you have the time and patience for a cute wagging tail fur friend, I am here waiting. My foster mom will happily help with her knowledge on how to help me become a good boy in your home.If you are interested in adopting, please complete and submit an adoption application.
