Meet Wendigo (Wen): A Husky with Heart, Hunger, and HumorWendigo — or Wen for short — is a 3-year-old Siberian Husky mix with a big personality and an even bigger comeback story. He came to us as a stray in very emaciated condition, and because of that, food is extremely important to him. He is highly food motivated and can be protective of his meals at times, though we have not seen aggression. With structure and continued guidance, he has been doing well.In fact, his love of food has worked in his favor. Our animal care attendants taught him how to sit using treats, and he does it with such dramatic enthusiasm we’re convinced he might register on the Richter scale. When there’s a snack involved, Wen is all in.Wen has plenty of energy and loves being outside, true to his Husky roots. Interestingly, he does get cold right now — likely due to his previous low weight — so he may benefit from a stylish puppy parka during chilly weather (at least until he fills out a bit more).He will need leash training and continued work on general manners, but he is eager to learn, especially if treats are part of the deal. Wen is incredibly trusting of people and has very high cuddle-bug potential once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy.Due to his enthusiasm and activity level, we recommend a home with children aged 10 and up.Wen is looking for a committed home ready to continue building his confidence, teaching him the ropes, and helping him thrive. With patience, structure, and plenty of snacks, he’s going to make a loyal, entertaining, and affectionate companion.

Amarok is a gentle northern girl with a calm, loving spirit who is ready to find her forever family. Though she’s about eight years old, she still has a youthful energy for long walks and outdoor adventures - but when she’s inside, she’s the picture of relaxation and contentment.Amarok adores being with her people and would be happiest in a home where she isn’t left alone for long stretches. She coexists peacefully with other dogs in her foster home, though she doesn’t interact much with them, and would do equally well as an only dog if she had plenty of human companionship.She has a prey drive and will happily chase after squirrels, rabbits, or cats, so a cat-free home is best. On walks, she does best in a harness, though her foster sometimes uses a slip lead for extra control when wildlife appears.Amarok is perfectly house-trained, shows no destructive habits, and has no signs of separation anxiety. She isn’t interested in toys, but she absolutely loves her walks and the chance to explore. Liver treats are her favorite reward, though she’s happy to snack on carrots, blueberries, or watermelon too.She has met children and was calm and friendly, so we believe she would do well in a home with respectful kids. Visitors are always welcomed warmly - no jumping, just gentle greetings.Her ideal forever home could be with a single person, couple, or family, as long as she has time with her humans and daily exercise. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but she would also be perfectly happy with regular walks and hikes. Amarok is not high-energy but is far from a couch potato - she strikes the perfect balance.Despite her age, Amarok still has a youthful spark and so much love to give. In typical husky fashion, I have a LOT of energy and would love to be your hiking, running or swimming buddy. I even have a number of tricks to keep you entertained! I look up to the great Houdini and have been known to make great escapes of my own. All of my furriends are impressed when they hear about the times I've jumped over fences and broke through crates!
