Story
Hey there, I'm Roxie! I'm a spunky senior girl with lots of energy for my age. I would do best in a laid-back home with kids a little older who will be gentle and mindful of my age. Other doggies are not my cup of tea, and I would be happiest being your one and only. I don't have any experience with cats. Please ask more about me today!

Story
Hiya, I'm Capone! I'm a shy little guy when meeting new people, but I'm very lovey dovey once I open up. I would do best with kids a tad older who will be gentle with me. I've done okay with other dogs at the shelter, but I can be bossy towards other small dogs. Please ask to meet me to get to know me more today!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, June 3rd unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $600   Mac and Cheese are a pair of 8-9 week old Terrier mixes who came to DPS via a rescue partner in the Central Valley at the tender age of five weeks old. They've grown up in a loving foster home and are now ready to each find a home of their own!   Mac and Cheese are definitely people-oriented dogs, and that was clear from the very first day at our house. They love to explore new spaces and run around outside, always while keeping an eye on the people nearby. Being such little pups, when they first arrived they were afraid of the stairs, but after a week they both mastered going up and down safely. Their favorite activities include: wrestling in the grass, finding sticks, chasing the big dog, sitting in sun puddles, climbing into the toy box (and napping there, which is the cutest thing you've ever seen!), sitting on feet and untying shoelaces (silly pups!), and getting big snuggles and licking faces. They especially enjoy stuffy-toys that make noises, and peanut butter Kongs. Both puppies liked their warm baths in the kitchen sink, and especially the big warm towel snuggles afterwards!       Mac (M): He is the more careful one, preferring to let Cheese take the lead on new things. He loves to eat (our lil foodie!); he is treat motivated and has learned to “sit” already (what a smart boy!). Mac is very gentle and affectionate and has the best-ever puppy eyes.       Cheese (F): She is a tiny body with a HUGE personality! She thinks she’s a big dog and being super confident! She engages fearlessly with all the other pets in the house and is quite adventurous for such a tiny gal. She communicates her needs clearly, and can be pretty demanding when she wants to be held and snuggled! She's a force to be reckoned with. Want a puppy who is excited to work on training? She's your gal!       Mac and Cheese love “Uncle Sparky” who is a 2-year old, 65lb DPS alum. For the first couple of days, the puppies were a little leary about Sparky - but then they all quickly made friends. Cheese especially likes to chase Sparky around the yard, while Mac follows along.       They also have fun licking and snuggling with our dog-friendly kitty. Mac and Cheese are super playful - with toys, sticks, balls, shoes…inside and outside … pretty much will play with anything everywhere! But when offered an opportunity for a lap, they will always choose the lap. They are both SUPER snuggly!       Their daily routine: Mac and Cheese sleep together in their crate - which we put inside an x-pen with a pee pad. We leave the crate door open for middle-of-the-night potty needs. They are quiet all night, waking up around 7am and ready to go outside to run and play. They have breakfast at 7:30am and have some wrestling matches in the kitchen. By 9am they are ready for another nap, sometimes right there on the kitchen floor on a comfy blanket. This cycle repeats all day. Lunch is around noon, and dinner at 6pm. In between eating and sleeping they get free play time outside, toys in the office while their foster mom is working, naps in their crate (if we leave the house), naps in our laps, and play/snuggle time on the couch in the evenings while we all watch TV. Bedtime is 9-10pm.       Mac and Cheese would be great with kids, and they would also like the company of another dog to chase and play with (or a cat!). Since they are small, they will be OK in an apartment as long as they have a safe outdoor place to play.       Mac and Cheese are only options for homes that have owned a dog in the last 5 years. If there are children in the home, they should be over the age of 5.                        June 8, 2023, 7:35 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $350 Lego is a 3 year old JRT mix who we rescued from a shelter. He was quite scared and we were happy to take him in and show him that humans are good and life has more to offer! He's been settling into his foster home and making progress. Here is their report! When he first arrived at our house, he was shy but but it didn’t take too long for him to feel safe. Since then he has gained so much confidence and loves to play by himself or with my dog (chihuahua mix). He is very energetic- like a puppy- and loves to go on hikes and does well on the leash. Our family has enjoyed having him in our house because he is a happy dog that will get extremely excited to see us even if you just went out to take trash. Also, he is a Velcro dog who follows me or my husband like a shadow. Recently it seems that he has become more independent and is content to nap on the sofa by himself. He loves giving puppy kisses and cuddles and never loses an opportunity to nap on my lap.   We wake up at 7:15 and take Lego for a 10 to 15-minute walk so he potties outside. He has breakfast at 9:00 am and plays/naps until I’m back from work at 5:00 pm and takes him for 30 minutes walk. He eats dinner at 7:00 pm. Then I take him another 10-minute walk at 9:00 pm around the neighborhood and go to sleep at 10:00 pm. When I work remotely he wants to be on my lap but he gets uncomfortable so I place a bed next to my desk. On the weekends we take Lego for 30-40 minutes hikes. Lego is an option for a home that has owned a dog previously. He would love to go to a home with another playful dog to be his buddy, but it's not mandatory. He is an option for kids over the age of 6.  June 8, 2023, 7:35 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $650 Laverne and Shirley are a pair of 8-9 week old Terrier mixes who came to DPS via a rescue partner in the Central Valley at the tender age of five weeks old. They've grown up in a loving foster home and are now ready to each find a home of their own! The day the girls arrived, they were so timid and tired. They just liked to be held and wanted to nap. They could barely keep their little eyes open! After a few days, they seemed to adjust well and we could see their personalities come out. They are such sweethearts!   Laverne (F): Laverne is the leader. She likes to let us know she’s awake and wants to be held. Laverne is more adventurous and is usually the first one trying to climb over the pen, pushing through the doors to be with us. She is very affectionate and loves to lick your face when you hold her close. Puppy breath! Puppy kisses!   Shirley (F): Shirley is more laid back. She’s fine lying in bed by herself while her sister is trying to find an escape route for the two of them. She follows her sister around outside, but also loves to just lie in the grass. When we try to pick her up, she’ll flop onto her back and just request belly rubs. It's too cute!   Their daily routine: Laverne and Shirley wake up at 6:30 am and go straight to the backyard to eat and go to the bathroom. They can sleep in longer if no one goes downstairs in the morning to wake them up. While they’re outside, we clean up their pen and bed. They don’t get up in the middle of the night, but they like ripping up the pee pads, as puppies tend to do!   The girls come back in soon after eating and going to the bathroom. They make little noises to let us know they want to come back in to be with people. We open their pen to let them run around the kitchen, then they nap around 8:30am.   When they wake up from their nap we let them go outside and throughout the day they go back and forth between napping in their pen, running outside, or napping on our laps. When they’re together outside or running around the kitchen they love to jump on each other, lick each other and playfully bite one another. Inside, they are still learning how to use pee pads. They’re good about relieving themselves outside, but sometimes they don’t fully relieve themselves until they’re back inside because they want to come inside with us so badly.   They have lunch at 12pm, go back to napping and running around, dinner at 5:30pm, then continue playing. In the later afternoon, we let them sit with us napping until they get ready for bed. If they wake up around 9pm, they run around the kitchen until 9:30pm when they go bathroom one more time then walk into bed. If they wake up around 9:30pm, they go straight out, then to bed.   We have an older dog. She’s at least 2x bigger than them. They want to play with her and like to run towards her, but she is not very friendly. They would love to go to homes with other playful dogs! They’re good with older and younger people; anyone who will hold them! They’ve interacted with our 90-year-old grandmother and played with our 11-year-old cousins.   The girls are teething, so they do like to chew. Their adopters will want to get them plenty of puppy toys to chomp on!   A funny little story about these cuties: One night we were trying to keep them penned up in the kitchen and Laverne kept figuring out how to get out and Shirley would just go and follow her sister. We kept throwing them back in the kitchen and tried to put stools up against the gate. The girls used their little noses to make a gap, shimmy out, and just walk around and come towards us. They are smart girls and want to be with people. They’ll do anything to snuggle up with you!   Laverne and Shirley are only options for homes that have owned a dog in the last 5 years. If there are children in the home, they should be over the age of 5.        June 8, 2023, 7:35 pm
