Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, June 3rd unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $600 Mac and Cheese are a pair of 8-9 week old Terrier mixes who came to DPS via a rescue partner in the Central Valley at the tender age of five weeks old. They've grown up in a loving foster home and are now ready to each find a home of their own! Mac and Cheese are definitely people-oriented dogs, and that was clear from the very first day at our house. They love to explore new spaces and run around outside, always while keeping an eye on the people nearby. Being such little pups, when they first arrived they were afraid of the stairs, but after a week they both mastered going up and down safely. Their favorite activities include: wrestling in the grass, finding sticks, chasing the big dog, sitting in sun puddles, climbing into the toy box (and napping there, which is the cutest thing you've ever seen!), sitting on feet and untying shoelaces (silly pups!), and getting big snuggles and licking faces. They especially enjoy stuffy-toys that make noises, and peanut butter Kongs. Both puppies liked their warm baths in the kitchen sink, and especially the big warm towel snuggles afterwards! Mac (M): He is the more careful one, preferring to let Cheese take the lead on new things. He loves to eat (our lil foodie!); he is treat motivated and has learned to “sit” already (what a smart boy!). Mac is very gentle and affectionate and has the best-ever puppy eyes. Cheese (F): She is a tiny body with a HUGE personality! She thinks she’s a big dog and being super confident! She engages fearlessly with all the other pets in the house and is quite adventurous for such a tiny gal. She communicates her needs clearly, and can be pretty demanding when she wants to be held and snuggled! She's a force to be reckoned with. Want a puppy who is excited to work on training? She's your gal! Mac and Cheese love “Uncle Sparky” who is a 2-year old, 65lb DPS alum. For the first couple of days, the puppies were a little leary about Sparky - but then they all quickly made friends. Cheese especially likes to chase Sparky around the yard, while Mac follows along. They also have fun licking and snuggling with our dog-friendly kitty. Mac and Cheese are super playful - with toys, sticks, balls, shoes…inside and outside … pretty much will play with anything everywhere! But when offered an opportunity for a lap, they will always choose the lap. They are both SUPER snuggly! Their daily routine: Mac and Cheese sleep together in their crate - which we put inside an x-pen with a pee pad. We leave the crate door open for middle-of-the-night potty needs. They are quiet all night, waking up around 7am and ready to go outside to run and play. They have breakfast at 7:30am and have some wrestling matches in the kitchen. By 9am they are ready for another nap, sometimes right there on the kitchen floor on a comfy blanket. This cycle repeats all day. Lunch is around noon, and dinner at 6pm. In between eating and sleeping they get free play time outside, toys in the office while their foster mom is working, naps in their crate (if we leave the house), naps in our laps, and play/snuggle time on the couch in the evenings while we all watch TV. Bedtime is 9-10pm. Mac and Cheese would be great with kids, and they would also like the company of another dog to chase and play with (or a cat!). Since they are small, they will be OK in an apartment as long as they have a safe outdoor place to play. Mac and Cheese are only options for homes that have owned a dog in the last 5 years. If there are children in the home, they should be over the age of 5. June 8, 2023, 7:35 pm
