Our dogs are physically located and fostered in North Carolina until they are adopted. Once they are adopted we can transport them to your location or any of our north eastern delivery locations. We have a a very affordable transporter who comes north every other week. This boy is a Jack Russell mix. He was born 1-4-2023. This boy weighs around 15 pounds and he is extremely social and great with adults and older children and other animals except cats. He likes to chase cats. This boy has been started on crate training and potty training. Willie had horrible skin when he came in. He had a horrible flea allergy. He must remain on good flea prevention such as Bravecto, Nexgard, or similar prevention. We have gotten his skin nearly straightened out. This furbay will go home neutered, current on vaccines, preventives and microchipped. We require a prescreen application to adopt. You can get that on the website at www.saveamuttkennel.net

Story
Meet Poppy! Poppy is a 6yr old, Terrier mix, spayed female and up to date on vaccines/preventatives. She is house trained, kennel trained, and vehicle trained as well. Poppy is a medium energy dog; feisty and likes to socialize BUT she's a little crusty on the outside and super gooey on the inside. She loves her people and her friends; however, you'll need to earn her trust. Poppy can be energetic, plays casually and enjoys sustained games of chase with her friends, on her terms (fun police.) She can get cranky if play becomes too vigorous and she gets pounced on too much/hard. Poppy has a little bit of arthritis, and it can be painful, so she will gladly retreat to the door to let you know she is done with playtime. She is more than willing to go inside, follow you around or curl up, chill, and get her belly rubbed. Being small but mighty, Poppy occasionally has bouts of barking at what she sees moving in the distance and will go zooming up and down the fence line in arousal of anyone/thing approaching; however, she will calm down on her own with minimal intervention from her person. When greeting you, Poppy displays the typical wiggle body and wildly wagging tail. Have you seen how long her tail is?! It waves like a banner over her back and is simply adorable! She may initially hop up to put her feet on you, letting you know she's happy and wants to interact with you, she loves attention and will display a little eagerness to get more loves... so saying her name as she's being petted, and the name of the other dog(s) being petted keeps her content. Noteworthy Behaviors: Poppy displays barrier reactivity with new people/surroundings as a way to express her anxiety in the situation. She will need a person or family, (with older children), who will understand and take their time with her. Once you win her over, she is gold! She is quirky about having her collar touched so she will whine, cower down, and roll to her side. She will display mouthy behavior as you attempt to put a leash on her, but she genuinely wants to go out so don't give up! She will pop right up and head to the door after being leashed!! Key points to consider when adopting Poppy: she is sugar and spice with bursts of energy so great with a laid back and an active family. Honorable mention: Poppy does have a housemate, Sully, who is also up for adoption. If you're looking for two friends, then they are your duo! They would have an easier transition into a new home together but they are not bonded. $200 Local adoption fee (in Texas) $400 Out of State Fee (includes transport to your area) $50 Fuel temporary fuel surcharge

Story
My name is Bolton....call me Bolt for short - I am 2yrs & 10 months old - and a bit of challenge....even though I am handsome with those big cab door ears and smiling - I don't always do well under stress. I am ok with cats....but not so much with dogs, and no kids for me and I need a fenced yard. I like to chill out in my room at the shelter, when I go for walks I do pretty good...but I like to jump up. I was not a big fan of toys...BUT I have been in a foster home and I have learned all about toys and I am liking it!!! According to my foster, I am a one person kind of guy...I love to cuddle and I like to be the center of attention!!! I will happily be your shadow....and I will follow you everywhere. I am definitely a good looking boy who is just waiting for his special person to arrive.I was part of a cruelty case with 19 dogs....so many of us were very scared and under-socialized....but I do pretty good despite where I came from....but I still am fearful of certain things.

Story
Jack Jolly and his friend Little Bear came to JR from a local person who was evicted from her home because the property was sold.  This little family lived in a mobile home and, even from the outside, it was obvious the inside was deplorable.  Being surrendered to Joyful Rescue was the bet thing that ever happened to these two and now they have a chance to live in a healthier environment in their sunset years.  They both had significant hair loss from being infested with fleas causing flea dermatitis with a secondary bacterial infection.  On top of this Jack had a collar, not completely around his neck, but around his neck and embedded in his arm pit with a gaping hole showing muscle!!!  Then we are told by the owner that we might want to put him down as he bites human and is not good with other dogs.  Alrighty then....   We tried to cut the collar off, but we were going to be bitten and it was there that long so we made an appointment the next day for neuter and collar removal and he physically healed well.  Since Jack lived so close to the rescue, we were a bit concerned that he may try to make his way back home, but shortly after the animals and humans left the trailer it burned down during the night!  The fire was investigated, but no outcome was made as to the origin.  Another part of this story is that Jack, on almost a daily basis when he lived in the trailer, would leave his yard and come over to the rescue and watch the other dogs through the fence.  Not knowing his name at that time we would yell out the window 'Go home neighbor dog!' and he would run home.  Jack was born about October 22, 2012 and, thankfully, only weigh about 10 lbs.  Update:  As I write this Jack has been here two years and is a very happy little dog but only one person here can touch him without getting bitten and that would be me.  If he comes up and put hi feet on my leg I know I can touch his sides for a good rub down, but if another dog come up he will go after the dog and if I try to touch him when he is not asking to be touched, I may well get bit.  So, Jack lives here mostly peaceful and here he will stay until his dying day because a normal home environment would endanger humans.  Jack is a Joyful Sanctuary dog and he truly is loved by the humans who live and work here, but the love is from a distance.  He is happy and healthy and, truly, he is adorable and funny!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $__N/A______. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html.
