Story
We don’t know exactly what happened in Reba’s past, but we know it was nothing good. She came in as a “stray” to a local inner city animal control, with many old scars and a ripped ear. But the worst scars run much deeper. She was terrified of human touch, leashes, and pretty much everything and just ricocheted off her kennel walls trying to escape and lunging and snapping at anyone who attempted to touch her. She’s been with us for a little bit and she’s still a slow work in progress. She seems like she’s survived a hoarding situation or maybe actually was on the streets for a while in survival mode. She will come up and take treats from us, runs around the yard following her little doggie friends looking happy, but still panics being handled or leashed and is convinced human hands will cause her harm. She’s a tiny Jack Russell/toy fox terrier/rat terrier type, about 10lbs, maybe 5 years old, and has been spayed and updated on shots. She will definitely need a very patient person that will give her time and space to learn to trust on her own terms and accept that she may never be a cuddle bug. She definitely needs a home with at least one other small dog friend to follow and help her feel secure. If you are looking for a feral cat in a dog’s body, a project who will go at her own pace and can’t be rushed or smothered with affection but still watches and relies on you, email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reba in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
His name is Carolyn's Nickels … or is it Mister George?? Let us explain. This sweet, soulful boy came into our lives with the name George. But we already had too many Georges (seriously, it’s a thing), so we gave him a fancy new name for adoption purposes to help him stand out. And while the name may be different, the dog underneath is still 100% George: loyal, loving, sensitive, and just a little bit goofy in the best possible way. George is about 5 years old and weighs around 25 pounds. George is such a unique guy that his foster parents actually did a doggie DNA test!  Based on his unique looks, it was no surprise when they learned his most prevalent breed was.....SUPERMUTT!  Check the photo of his breed results to see the rest his breeds. . George gets along beautifully with other dogs — he’s currently living with five, and it’s nothing but wagging tails and shared toys. He doesn’t guard food or toys, and he’s not a barker (unless he sees something that is really interesting, and then you’ll get a litte woof here and there.  George is house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps soundly through the night — either snuggled next to your bed or curled up right beside you, if you’re the “dogs on the bed” type. He’s also amazing in the car — calm, quiet, and happy to be along for the ride.  As a matter of fact he LOVES it and accompanies his foster dad to dunkin donuts where he gets a couple little treats if he's a good boy (and he's always a good boy!) George walks nicely on leash and loves his toys, but what really sets George apart is his heart. He can be shy in new situations — the kind of dog who freezes or gently steps back when he’s unsure — but he doesn’t panic. He just needs a moment. And when you give him that moment, something beautiful happens: he leans into you with full trust. And once you earn George’s trust, you’ll never walk alone again. George doesn’t absolutely *need* another dog in the home, but he really really excels and thrives in a pack, so if you're looking to add another to your own pack, this might be the guy for you.  George is ready to find his person. The one who sees past the name and into the kind, quirky, deeply loving dog behind it. If that sounds like you, apply at www.northstarpets.org — and don’t forget to mention George (aka Carolyn's Nickels … it’s complicated, but he’s worth it).November 14, 2025, 4:49 pm

Story
I am homeless living in a hotel. The hotel does not take animals. He is a very good loving protector. He is a little rough around the edges but he would make a great pet for someone. He is a jack Russell and a good boy. Please help me find my pet a place as I can not keep him anymore.
