Story
Elijah was transferred to BMAR from Hot Paws after being retrieved from Mexia Kill Shelter in 2022. He was just a puppy and found himself in dire straits. Elijah was a typical happy go lucky puppy full of fun and he was adopted immediately,Fast forward to 4 years later and his adopter had to relocate and returned Elijah to our rescue.During the 4 years at the adopters, Elijah lived a solitary life. He has become dog selective which means he gets along with some dogs and not others. He is definitely people selective. He chooses to belong to one person and then guards that person from everyone else....including their spouse! At this time, we think a home without other dogs (unless a meet and greet can determine otherwise) and certainly no kids at all would be the goal for Elijah. Perhaps a single parent home that is quieter and has lots of attention to give a boy that needs a new lease on life is preferable.Elijah had full dental recently, his teeth were cleaned and a few extracted....his little cute tongue sticks out the front! He has never been aggressive at his current fosters and spends time at the front desk with a pair of small companions. He keeps everyone company and has a good snooze beside his friends. He doesn't hear well....and we think his former aggressive tendencies towards other people stems from that. If he is laying by his chosen person, it may startle him for someone to plop down beside him or reach for him from a side or back that he doesn't see - his lack of hearing plays a big part in that. All in all...he's an adorable little guy that really deserves a chance at a great understanding home.....he will make a great companion and fill someone's day with good company.

Story
Pebbles is a young scruffy terrier mix pup who was found wondering about on a residents land. Thankfully a wonderful foster stepped up!   A little shy, but gets along well with other small pups in her foster home and enjoys being outside!   Currently learning how to co-exist with indoor/outdoor cats, but would need additional supervision and guidance in a new home to continue training!  ##2802492##

Story
Meet Tigger — a sweet, soulful terrier mix with a long, lean build and an even bigger heart. This special girl has been through a lot and is ready to find the loving forever home she always deserved. Tigger is incredibly affectionate and bonds deeply with her people. She loves being close to her humans and will happily soak up all the love and attention you can give. She’s fully potty trained, enjoys short bursts of playtime, and has a curious little explorer streak — she may wander off to investigate, but she always comes back on her own. Tigger can get along with other dogs and even cats when introductions are done slowly and properly. However, she would truly thrive in a calmer home where she can be the center of attention. She can be a little possessive of her humans and has a bossy, herding-style personality at times — similar to a Heeler or Aussie — and may nip at other dogs to “put them in their place.” She has never been in a fight and does not show aggression, but because of her strong personality, Tigger would do best as an only pet or with just one calm, respectful furry companion. Tigger would also do best in an adult home or one with older children (12+), where her boundaries and need for a peaceful environment will be understood. Tigger was rescued from a difficult situation and tested positive for early heartworm disease. She is currently on a slow-kill treatment plan and will need continued monitoring and prevention. She previously received ProHeart 12 and will continue follow-up treatment as directed by her veterinarian. Tigger also takes Vetmedin to support healthy heart function, though she does not have heart disease. Because she is recovering, she needs restricted activity while undergoing treatment.   The only other requirement for her ideal home is a fenced yard, as she has a tendency to dart out the door if given the opportunity — which is also why an adult-only home would be the best fit for her. While we understand that not everyone has a fenced yard, it would provide her with the safest and most stress-free environment. That said, we are open to considering exceptions for the right home and family. Despite everything she’s been through, Tigger remains loving, loyal, and full of sweetness. She’s looking for a patient, caring home where she can feel safe, loved, and cherished for the rest of her life. If you’re searching for a devoted companion with a gentle spirit and lots of love to give, Tigger may be your perfect match. ##2366209##

Story
Ben8 months old & 14 pounds, My dog scanner says he’s a delightful mx of Rat Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua with a dash of boxer thrown in to spice things up.We sent to Dallas Shelter to pick up Dyse for a friend in Nova Scotia and Myron passed by this boy and called to see if I knew about him. Of course I did, his age, weight and fully vetted...along with his shelter notes (evaluation) which I told Myron was the reason I didn’t tag him. “BAR, DID NOT ALLOW TO PET OR TOUCHED AND DOES NOT WALK ON LASH WILL ALLIGATOR ROLL” “GO SLOW” TOTAL SCORE 0 But I did tell him he was a cutie.Rescues don’t tag these kind of dogs, adopters don’t consider them. Who wants to get bit?“Give me 5 minutes” he said....but he called back in 2 minutes. “I can fix this boy, he’s a good dog” Ok..I sent the email in for the tag, DAS is efficient and the deal was done in 5 minutes tops and Ben loaded into the car with Dyce to transport back. Not bashing anyone here, but large shelters need to allow volunteers in there to evaluate dogs. It’s the difference between life and death. Ben was overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Caught as a stray and probably with a catch pole, brought into all the chaos, as soon as 72 hour stray hold was up he was poked and prodded by vets, employees and who knows what else...the little fellow was terrified. The evals are perhaps being done by people with too little training, time or whatever. I hate to say too little compassion cause I really don’t know. But for this little guy, he was in serious trouble...and it all boils down to what was listed in his file. Evaluation notes are what makes rescues (and adopters) decide to take a look.Once in a capable “non-scared” person’s hands, Ben got comfy real fast. Look at the photos of his freedom ride. Does this dog look like he bites? Like he’s hard to deal with? Not one bit, he rode in Myron’s lap, took a nap in the passenger seat, got a long fine with the behemoth Dyce riding behind him, and shared a sub sandwich between the 3 of them gently taking his portion out of a human hand that he had just met an hour ago.Didn’t stop there....after 5 hours in a car he arrived at BMAR and his door was opened by excited females oohing and ahhhhing over his small little handsome self. He gratefully lept into waiting arms and went about introducing himself to the girls...and of course all the “pack” dogs surrounding the car.Happy to report that this little fellow is crate trained, leash trained, will eat anything, likes dogs and potties outside. Now, let’s find him a home!
