Story
Parker (A134997) is a 4-year-old Akita x GSD mix who weighed 43.2 pounds on intake!06/24/24 This intelligent boy is Parker! Parker was surrendered to the shelter with his doggy friend Sarafina because their owner could no longer care for them. Parker was said to be dog-selective and should be slowly and carefully introduced to other dogs if introductions are made. Parker has no history with smaller critters and children. He was a little unsure of staff initially on arrival but quickly warmed up! We encourage his next owner to bring him to a basic obedience class with a certified trainer so that he can continue working on his manners and build confidence. Parker was said to be kennel-trained and housebroken (will whine when he needs to go out). He was also said to know the command shake! If you are interested in meeting Parker, please let us know! Story
Geralt (A135164) is a 3-year-old Alaskan Malamute07/11/24 This big, handsome boy is Geralt! Geralt arrived at the shelter as a stray and defaulted to the borough. Since he was a stray, we do not have a lot of behavioral information on him. A former neighbor stated that Geralt has lived happily with children and dogs. At the shelter, he has done a good job at keeping his kennel clean, indicating that he may be housebroken. We do encourage his next owner to bring him to a basic obedience class with a certified trainer to continue working on his manners. Geralt has seemed indifferent toward his doggy neighbors at the shelter but does seem to stand his ground if challenged. Malamutes are known to have a higher prey drive, and without knowing his history, he may do best in a home without smaller critters. Please ensure you are doing appropriate introductions with any and all new potential friends. Malamutes are known to be stubborn; we encourage his next owner to research and make sure he is the right fit for them prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting Geralt, please let us know! Story
Kala (A134122) is an Alaskan Malamute x Belgian Malinois mix who weighed 67.1 pounds on intake! 07/13/24 Kala, previously known as Helga, is back at the shelter because she was not a good fit for her previous family. Kala was described as being a super sweet, amazing dog. Unfortunately, she was not the most gentle with the 4-year-old child in the home, and would occasionally knock her over. She was said to do well with some dogs and not with others, so it may be best that her next home not have other dogs but she could meet some friends out on play dates. Kala's previous owners did not think she would do well with cats or small critters due to a high prey drive. She was said to be housebroken, but they never had to use a kennel because she did so well loose in the house (she only got into the trash one time)! Kala has a basic obedience class under her belt, and she knows sit, stay and come very well. She was said to ride well in the car and to usually be gentle when playing. If you are interested in meeting Miss Kala, please give the shelter a call!04/16/24 This gorgeous gal is Helga! She was surrendered to the shelter because her prior owner had too many dogs to care for. Helga lived with a large pack of dogs and was said to do well with them. She has no history with cats, pocket pets, or livestock. Please ensure you are doing appropriate introductions with all new friends. Slow, safe, and controlled introductions increase the likelihood of a positive interaction. Helga was also said to have done well with people of all ages, including babies and children. Helga is a mix of two very intelligent task driven breeds. She is looking for an owner who can keep her both mentally and physically stimulated. We encourage her next owner to research different classes that she may enjoy and give them a try! Helga has been very sweet at the shelter, and we are excited to see her find her new home! If you are interested in meeting Helga, please let us know! July 13, 2024, 11:29 pm
