Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Kittee! Don't let her stunning Akita looks fool you, Kittee isn't your typical aloof Akita – she's an extra-friendly sweetheart! This magnificent girl is a strong, powerful breed, and while she'd never use her strength against you, she thrives with an understanding owner who can provide confident direction. She's got an independent, stubborn streak, but it's all part of her charm! At heart, Kittee is still a playful puppy. Her favorite game? Fetch with herself! You'll often find her joyfully tossing her toys around. When it's time for bed, Kittee is a clean kennel keeper, though she might put on the breaks a little when first going in. She absolutely adores outdoor adventures, whether it's exploring with you or enjoying some independent sniff time. Kittee is a cuddly girl, especially after a good romp. She treats everyone like her best friend, greeting them with an open heart. Her bouncy playstyle is contagious, especially when she’s chasing tennis balls and rope toys – just don’t expect a perfect retrieve every time! If you're ready for a strong, loving, and slightly goofy companion, Kittee is eager to meet her forever family! Kittee will need to be the only dog in the home or adopted into a home with a submissive, neutered male dog.   Kittee came into rescue with swelling in her leg, and after veterinary evaluation and cytology, she’s been diagnosed with a sarcoma with high suspicion of osteosarcoma. Because of this diagnosis, Kittee will be available as a hospice adoption. Our goal with hospice adoptions is to give animals like Kittee the chance to live in loving family homes, surrounded by care and comfort, for however much time they have left rather than staying in rescue. For full transparency: there is no true cure for osteosarcoma. The typical recommendation is amputation of the affected leg with radiation or chemotherapy. Without treatment, average life expectancy is 4–6 months; with treatment it may be extended up to two years. Because Kittee is a young, large dog, we’ve decided not to put her through the pain and recovery of amputation, but instead focus on her comfort and quality of life. She is currently on pain medication to help keep her comfortable and mobile, and we’ll continue to monitor her needs closely.   Kittee is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
