Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Kittee! Don't let her stunning Akita looks fool you, Kittee isn't your typical aloof Akita – she's an extra-friendly sweetheart! This magnificent girl is a strong, powerful breed, and while she'd never use her strength against you, she thrives with an understanding owner who can provide confident direction. She's got an independent, stubborn streak, but it's all part of her charm! At heart, Kittee is still a playful puppy. Her favorite game? Fetch with herself! You'll often find her joyfully tossing her toys around. When it's time for bed, Kittee is a clean kennel keeper, though she might put on the breaks a little when first going in. She absolutely adores outdoor adventures, whether it's exploring with you or enjoying some independent sniff time. Kittee is a cuddly girl, especially after a good romp. She treats everyone like her best friend, greeting them with an open heart. Her bouncy playstyle is contagious, especially when she’s chasing tennis balls and rope toys – just don’t expect a perfect retrieve every time! If you're ready for a strong, loving, and slightly goofy companion, Kittee is eager to meet her forever family! Kittee will need to be the only dog in the home or adopted into a home with a submissive, neutered male dog.   Kittee came into rescue with swelling in her leg, and after veterinary evaluation and cytology, she’s been diagnosed with a sarcoma with high suspicion of osteosarcoma. Because of this diagnosis, Kittee will be available as a hospice adoption. Our goal with hospice adoptions is to give animals like Kittee the chance to live in loving family homes, surrounded by care and comfort, for however much time they have left rather than staying in rescue. For full transparency: there is no true cure for osteosarcoma. The typical recommendation is amputation of the affected leg with radiation or chemotherapy. Without treatment, average life expectancy is 4–6 months; with treatment it may be extended up to two years. Because Kittee is a young, large dog, we’ve decided not to put her through the pain and recovery of amputation, but instead focus on her comfort and quality of life. She is currently on pain medication to help keep her comfortable and mobile, and we’ll continue to monitor her needs closely.   Kittee is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 2, 2025, 4:54 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, my name is Guardian! I’m a sweet, affectionate pup who loves nothing more than being close to my people. I gently nudge for pets and attention, and curling up for a cozy nap right beside you is my idea of heaven. I’m also an explorer at heart—whether I’m sniffing around the yard, taking in all the outdoor sights, or heading out on a walk or run, I’m happiest when I get to stretch my legs and enjoy the fresh air. I’d be a perfect match for someone who loves the outdoors and wants a loyal, lovable companion by their side. My foster parents say I’m a wonderful dog who will make an amazing addition to a caring family. Guardian is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Michelin-aka Willow! Willow is a 10-month-old Husky/Collie mix with a heart full of sweetness and a love for every adventure life brings. She’s playful, curious, and always excited to meet new friends—both human and canine. Willow is currently learning her manners, basic commands, recall, and overall obedience and she’s making great progress! She is naturally submissive and does wonderfully with other dogs, often looking to them for boundary cues and confidence at first and then diving right into play mode and chasing. Here’s a cute video of her playing with her foster siblings. She’s also good with confident, dog-savvy cats who don’t run away or mind a friendly, energetic pup in their space wanting to play with them. Willow would thrive in a home with another playful dog who can help her burn off her energy and show her the ropes as well as paw-rents that live an active lifestyle. Not only is Willow the perfect pup but she also is rocking all the basics-she’s already crate trained through the night, potty trained, spayed, and has all age-appropriate vaccinations. With her goofy personality, eagerness to learn, and adventurous spirit, she is ready to bring joy, fun, and companionship to her perfect forever home. Michelin is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
