Story
Poppy is an adorable Keeshond-mix puppy. She is medium sized, wants to be a lap dog, and is incredibly friendly and outgoing. Poppy’s mom, Mocha, is a pure-bred Keeshond and her dad is a pure-bred Australian Shepherd. This sweet, fluffy girl loves to be in the middle of play time. She is a typical puppy – one moment she runs at top speed but is sound asleep 5 minutes later. Poppy earned her name because of her habit for jumping up when she is grouped with her siblings – this girl loves attention. Poppy loves everyone and everything she meets – humans, her puppy siblings, other dogs, cats, backyard birds, bugs, water bowls, food, toys, towels, etc. Poppy is still a baby so she will need a family dedicated to keeping her safe & healthy while she grows up and teaching her how to be a well-behaved family dog.

Story
Meet Leonidas (or Leo to his friends) !! This absolutely stunning boy is ready to come rule the roost in your home. He’s a fun active guy with a lot of love to give. Leonidas is an approx. 3 year old male. He weighs 20 pounds and is full grown. He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. So what is he? Well we aren’t sure. He came to us from the shelter as a “large Pomeranian” and yeah, that’s exactly what he looks like lol. Could be some Keeshond or Spitz in there to account for the size he is. Whatever he is he’s a very handsome boy. Leonidas was surrendered to the shelter by his family. He did not do well in the shelter at all. He was scared and lashing out (typical behavior for smaller dogs in a scary place missing their families) We got him into a foster home and after a few days to adjust he was a sweet happy boy again. He is doing pretty good with his training so far. He’s done well on car rides and does not get sick. He did good with the limited leash walking we’ve done with him. Due to the heat lately we don’t take him out walking much. He gets hot quickly. He is crate trained and really likes his kennel as a safe place. He will go in randomly and relax and sleeps crated overnight. Leonidas is fully potty trained BUT he still marks territory indoors at times. Currently it’s been mainly in a room with rabbit cages and where another dog in training uses puppy pads. Those scents may be enticing him to do that behavior more. He is an energetic and fun dog. He definitely needs a home willing to keep his body and mind busy. He loves bones, toys, games etc. Exercising him with our heat lately is challenging so in home playing, games, training, puzzles etc are something his new family should be prepared to do for him. He’s a great size for someone wanting a spunky playful dog that isn’t huge. He is very loyal and wants to follow you everywhere. Leonidas is for sure an alpha kind of dog. He needs to be the head dog in the home or be the only dog. He does well with slow introductions to submissive dogs that don’t challenge him. He currently lives with our remaining two semi feral hoarding girls Apricot and Grapefruit. He does well with them aside from some unwanted attempts at love making that they don’t appreciate 🤦🏼‍♀️ He is not fostered with kids but we do think he will need only older kids in the home. He needs time to adjust to new people and places. He can be sensitive about his ears and generally wouldn’t likely tolerate younger kids. He will need to be with kids over 12 that are well behaved around dogs, respectful, and do not treat him like a toy. Leonidas has not been around cats that we know of. He currently shows a lot of excited energy seeing the bunnies in their cage. We think he will likely chase cats and probably won’t be the best fit for a home with them. He has not shown any issues with people or other dogs about sharing treats or toys. He is fed separately from other dogs so we aren’t sure how he would do with another dog trying to take his food. He’s fine with people around his food. Leonidas came to us with kennel cough and is now recovered and feeling great. He has found his bark recently. He is dedicated to vocally fighting off the kitchen mixer and vacuum. He barks at noises and door knocks. Not terrible but definitely can be loud at times. If you’re not willing to accept that about him please pick a different dog. Overall he’s a really fun loving sweet guy. He needs someone willing to give him time to adjust and then he will be glued to you. ♦️Dogs with his coat type need a lot of brushing and care given to it. They are not supposed to be shaved so proper maintenance is a must. If you’re unwilling to upkeep his coat then he’s not the dog for you♦️ Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.
