Meet Luke Perry
a gentle giant with a soft heart, a loyal spirit, and one of the most unique coats in the dog world.
Luke Perry is a 3-year-old Komondor, a rare Hungarian livestock guardian breed known for developing distinctive corded locks over time. After recently getting a haircut, Perry is starting his cord journey all over again and is ready to grow into his signature look with a family of his own.
While Luke Perry may be a large dog at 119 pounds, he's truly a sensitive soul. He forms strong bonds with his people and prefers spending time with them over socializing with other dogs. Like many livestock guardian breeds, Luke Perry takes time to trust new people and situations. When he's unsure, he's more likely to seek comfort from his trusted humans than react. In fact, when meeting new people, Luke Perry often lays down and offers his belly—a sweet sign of a dog who is looking for reassurance rather than confrontation.
We want to be honest that Luke Perry can be shy and easily overwhelmed by unfamiliar experiences. He isn't aggressive in the slightest; instead, he tends to shut down when frightened. His foster family is helping him build confidence through patience, love, and positive experiences, and he's already showing more of his wonderful personality as he settles in.
Once Luke Perry feels safe, he's an affectionate companion who loves cuddling, following his people from room to room, and supervising daily activities. He doesn't bark much, but he's always paying attention to what's happening around him. True to his breed, he's observant, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to his family.
Luke Perry is leash trained, crate trained, potty trained, rides well in the car, and gets along well with children. He has also shown no interest in cats. He can coexist with other dogs with slow introductions, though he tends to focus more on his humans than his canine housemates.
One important thing future adopters should know is that Luke Perry has a severe chicken allergy. Chicken must be completely avoided, as it causes painful skin sores and discomfort. Thankfully, now that his allergy has been identified, he's feeling much better and on the path to healthier skin and a happier life.
Luke Perry's ideal home is with someone who understands livestock guardian breeds or is eager to learn about them. He needs adopters who will respect his need for slow introductions, celebrate his progress, and allow him to build confidence at his own pace. His foster mom has extensive Komondor experience and is committed to helping his future family learn about the breed and Luke Perry's unique needs.
If you're looking for a loyal shadow, a gentle companion, and a dog who will reward your patience with unwavering devotion, Luke Perry may be the perfect addition to your family.
