HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet her, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to new people and environments that dogs typically get from puppyhood; because of this she startles easily and will require time, patience and the understanding that she may prefer a more "low-key" life - Really opens up around other dogs and draws confidence from them, so we are requiring that she go to a home with a resident dog to set up for success. Here's how the difference looked when she went to her foster home: While she was uncertain and insecure being around her foster family, that changed instantly when she met their resident dog - the two hit it off immediately and within seconds she came out of her shell, bouncing, wagging her tail and seeking affection from people- In her foster home she loves pets and snuggles, rolls over for belly rubs, leans into people, crawls into laps and reaches out with her paw for more attention - Loves chews and bones and is still learning about toys; has started to play fetch and tug- Loves being brushed and will lie down calmly for full-body grooming- Walks nicely on leash and is comfortable with a collar or harness; still may do best with a standalone home and yard for potty breaks- Enjoys relaxing near her family and watching while they cook or do chores; has been good about not being underfoot and does not seem bothered by household noises- Treat-motivated and picks up on training quickly; knows sit, come, and in, and she's working on down- Has been learning housetraining by watching her family's resident dog and has had only a few accidents - Does well in a crate at night, and is typically OK for a few hours in her crate if she can see the other dog when her family is not home, but has also been known to break out of crates when stressed - Loves playing with the dog in her foster home - running, chasing, playing keep away and play-fighting; can get a little intense, but she also listens well and backs off when the other dog tells her it's too much; loves to cuddle with the resident dog when they're receptive- Young, noisy or busy children will likely be too much for her right now, so she's looking for a more mature home - We don't know her history with cats All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Brown Weight: 48 Age: 1yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
Rowen is a sweet and affectionate dog with a playful personality and a gentle heart. He loves playing with balls and ropes and has a great time running around during games of chase. When he’s done playing, Rowen is more than happy to relax and enjoy cuddles and attention from his people. He is potty trained, dog friendly, and does well around other dogs. Rowen came to us as a stray, and after several unsuccessful attempts to contact his previous owner, he is now looking for a new beginning. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, and microchipped, and ready to find a loving forever home where he can thrive.

Story
Rex is a sweet black Lab mix who came to our shelter as an unclaimed stray, and he’s quickly won us over with his charm. This playful guy loves to run and enjoys just about any kind of toy you can give him. He’s also a smart pup with good manners and listens well, making him a joy to spend time with. Rex has done well when interacting with some of our more social dogs, so with the right introduction, he could be a great companion for another friendly pup. Rex is ready to find a loving home where he can play, learn, and shine as the wonderful dog he is!

Story
Jeffrey has been with us for a little while now, so he can be a bit nervous around new people—but don’t let that stop you from getting to know him. Once he warms up, he reveals his true personality: a sweet, playful pup with a heart full of love. Tennis balls are his absolute favorite, and he never says no to a good chew toy or a game of fetch. He also loves spending time outside, exploring the yard and soaking up the sunshine. Jeffrey is still polishing up his manners, but he’s a quick learner who just wants to make his people proud. With a little patience and consistency, he’ll thrive in a home where he feels safe and loved. He’s neutered, up to date on his vaccines, heartworm tested, and microchipped for his safety. If you’re someone who can offer him the time and trust he needs, Jeffrey will reward you with loyalty, affection, and lots of tail wags.
