Story
Jonathon has lived through more heartbreak than any young dog ever should — yet his spirit remains remarkably intact.
After being adopted from Tulsa Animal Services, Jonathon experienced a devastating tragedy when his owner took his own life in front of him. Through no fault of his own, Jonathon’s world shattered in an instant. He was later returned to the shelter, confused and grieving, facing an uncertain future.
Many dogs would shut down after such a traumatic loss — but Jonathon didn’t. Instead, he continues to meet the world with gentleness, affection, and a resilience that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Behind his story is a goofy, lovable boy whose personality refuses to be dimmed. One of our volunteers affectionately nicknamed him “Beavis,” because she imagines his inner voice sounding just like that iconic, endearing goofball. And honestly? It fits. Jonathon has that same wide-eyed, slightly mischievous, “heh heh… did somebody say snacks?” energy that makes people smile without even trying.
He’s the kind of dog who looks at you like, “Heh heh… you’re my human now.”
🐶 About Jonathon
• Pit / Lab mix
• Approximately 1.5 years old
• Neutered
• Extremely treat-motivated (heh heh… yes, food)
• Active, playful, and eager to learn
• Loves interaction, attention, and engagement
Jonathon is still very much a young dog, full of life, curiosity, and playful charm. He thrives on connection, enjoys being part of the action, and carries a wonderfully silly streak that shines brighter the more comfortable he becomes.
His goofy grin and joyful energy are a beautiful reminder that his past does not define him.
What Jonathon deserves now is simple but profound — a stable, loving home where he can feel safe, build trust, and fully embrace the happy, carefree life he has always deserved.
Because despite everything he has endured, Jonathon is still very much a “huh huh… life is cool” kind of dog.
Jonathon isn’t defined by tragedy. He’s defined by resilience, heart, and the joy he’s just waiting to bring into someone’s life.
Jonathon is ready for his forever home. 💛
Jonathon’s adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care.
We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org
