Story
Bambi is a beautiful 3-year old female Yellow Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix who was surrendered by her owner to a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff on September 9, 2022 who in turn brought her to the safety of our shelter. Bambi has a tan short smooth coat, white paws, a long tail, and a lovely serene-looking face with a black button nose and a long slender muzzle. Bambi has rather large ears. She usually holds her left ear semi-erect and while she holds her left ear erect .. which gives her the most endearing appearance. Bambi was understandably frightened after being brought to an unfamiliar place with people that she did not yet realize were her new best friends. Bambi is learning to trust our kennel techs and was willing to accompany HSOV Kennel Tech Zarah Strahler outdoors for glamour photos on the afternoon of September 11th. She looked to Zarah for self-confidence and stayed as close to her as possible. We don't know yet how Bambi feels about other dogs, cats, or children. We will let her acclimate to her new surroundings on her own time as we learn more about her likes and dislikes. Bambi weighs 48.4 lbs and could easily gain a few pounds to fill out her slim trim physique. Bambi will be spayed before being adopted by her new family. UPDATE: Bambi was spayed on December 5, 2022 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Sheldon is a handsome 3-1/2 year old male Chocolate Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 22, 2022 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on State Route 555 in the Cutler Ohio area. Sheldon was wearing an orange/silver reflective collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. Sheldon has a chocolate brown short smooth coat with a white bib on his neck/chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with expressive brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears . Sheldon has a friendly, easygoing personality and enjoyed his 15-minutes of fame when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan spent time with him for his outdoor photo session. There was an after-hours dog walk in progress, and Sheldon was very curious about other dogs that he saw being walked in the distant and seemed to want to make their acquaintance. He also 'perked up' when he saw cars being driven into the parking lot as though he expected his owner to coming to look for him. Sheldon appears to be housetrained. Sheldon weighs 59.4 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. He has a slim trim physique and could easily carry a few more pounds. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Sheldon was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Sheldon was not reclaimed, he was neutered on January 11, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine. Sheldon was adopted on March 25, 2023 but was returned a week or so later because he was nervous around babies (and perhaps with toddlers/small children) and shows his fear by growling, so we recommend that Sheldon be placed in a home with adults or older children. He is truly a fantastic lovable dog who will be a terrific companion with his new family. We've also learned that Sheldon does NOT do well with cats, so he should not be placed in a home where he would have contact with them. Sheldon appears to do ok with most other dogs.

Story
Bambi is a beautiful 3-year old female Yellow Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix who was surrendered by her owner to a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff on September 9, 2022 who in turn brought her to the safety of our shelter. Bambi has a tan short smooth coat with a white blaze on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and a lovely serene-looking face with a black button nose and a long slender muzzle. Bambi has rather large ears which she holds erect. Bambi was understandably frightened after being brought to an unfamiliar place with people that she did not yet realize were her new best friends. Bambi was learning to trust our kennel techs and was willing to accompany HSOV Kennel Tech Zarah Strahler outdoors for glamour photos on the afternoon of September 11th when we took her original pictures. Bambi looked to Zarah for self-confidence and stayed as close to her as possible. Bambi weighed 48.4 lbs the day she arrived. She definitely needed to gain several pounds to fill out her slim trim physique, and it broke our hearts to see that every rib in her beautiful body was protruding. Fortunately for Bambi, one of our fantastic foster mothers offered her a temporary foster home on September 17, 2022 where she could enjoy the hospitality of a real home instead of a shelter kennel .. and where Bambi could receive extra TLC (and good nutritional food), extra loving, and the companionship of other dogs. Bambi was spayed on December 5, 2022 and was also given rabies vaccine. These updated photos of Bambi were taken on January 2, 2023 when her foster mother brought her back to HSOV for a visit. We were thrilled to see Bambi looking even more beautiful than when we saw her three months ago! Bambi is now at a healthy weight and weighs approximately 65-70 lbs. She walks fairly well on a leash and posed like a showgirl for HSOV Kennel Tech Alexis O'Brien who helped Bambi with glamour photos. Her foster mother gave us some terrific information about Bambi based upon her experience with her over the past three months which we want to share with potential adopters: Bambi gets along with other dogs, and she is quite playful (especially with Nigel a senior male dog that we are fostering over the holidays). Bambi is good with older children, but she will unintentionally knock young/smaller children down since Bambi doesn't pay attention when she is playing. Bambi tends to be protective of both her human family and canine family in her foster home. Bambi knows the 'sit' and 'down' commands. She has been kept indoors and is housebroken (and will use a doggy door to go outside to her fenced-in yard). Bambi LOVES toys!! Bambi prefers a slow introduction when it comes to meeting new people. She does not rush into a relationship. Her foster mother wanted potential adopters to know that Bambi does not have a good 'meet-and-greet' personality, but PLEASE do not judge Bambi on a first impression. When Bambi gains your trust, you couldn't ask for a more loving dog. It took Bambi a few days to warm up to her foster family, but she was soon giving kisses to them after she realized she could trust them to be kind and loving with her. We'd suggest a few meet-and-greet sessions with Bambi with proper introductions from her foster family and/or our HSOV kennel techs before she is fostered or adopted.
