Story
Jax is a handsome male (possible Labrador Retriever/American Pit Bull Terrier mix) puppy who made his debut into the world on December 3, 2025 when his beautiful mother (Mavis) gave birth to Jax and his nine brothers/sisters. Momma Mavis had been brought to the HSOV on November 25, 2025 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Main Street in Belpre Ohio in the vicinity of McHappy's Bake Shoppe. Mavis was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Mavis was very pregnant when she entered our shelter, and we knew that she would soon be giving birth to several puppies based upon her size. Fortunately for Mavis, one of our wonderful foster mothers offered her the hospitality of a temporary home later in the day on November 25th so that Mavis would have a safe comfortable haven to give birth and to raise her babies. Jax has a sleek black coat with a vertical white stripe on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a splash of white on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. Jax and his siblings have affectionate, super playful personalities. Mavis returned to our shelter on February 4th since her puppies were fully weaned, and their foster mother continues to care for her puppies. These photos of Jax were taken on February 21st 2026 while he posed for some professional-looking portraits and gave us his cool, calm, and collected renditions of his classic "The Name is Bond.. James Bond" impersonations complete with facial expressions. HSOV is currently accepting adoption applications for Jax and several of his siblings. Jax will be neutered before being officially adopted by his new family. He could be fostered-to-adopt while he is awaiting his neuter appointment with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

Story
Doofy is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on March 9, 2025 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked him up on Tadpole Run Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Doofy was wearing a collar with a Wood County WV dog tag and a rabies vaccination tag, so we are hopeful that he will be reclaimed. Doofy has a shiny black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Doofy appeared to have a friendly, outgoing personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren spent time with him in the lobby of our shelter for his quick photo session shortly after his arrival on March 9th. This big boy weighs 85 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Doofy would preferred to have enjoyed a walk/photo session outside since it was a nice sunny afternoon. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Doofy will be held for 14 days since he had dog tags which will enable us to locate his owner. We hope that his owner (or someone familiar with Doofy) will see his Facebook photos and know that he is safely in our shelter and would love to go home. Doofy is NOT good with other dogs. He is ok with cats except that he plays rough with them. Doofy was neutered on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. He weighed 84 lbs that day. UPDATE: Doofy went home with a foster family on March 19, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Unfortunately, Doofy was returned to HSOV by his foster family on March 21st 2026 because Doofy is NOT good with other dogs.

Story
Arlo is a handsome 3-year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Echo Valley Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Arlo was accompanied by his best friend Steven (an adult American Staffordshire Terrier) who is also in our shelter. Neither of these boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Arlo has a yellow/tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate brown nose, and large floppy ears which frame his face. This sweet boy has a gentle, easygoing personality. Arlo enjoys attention and being petted by our kennel techs and volunteers. Arlo and his best friend (Steven) are continuing to enjoy their own 'bachelor's pad' in our Safe Haven Building where they have the freedom of not being in a kennel. Interestingly, Arlo enjoys being petted and when Steven sees Arlo getting pets .. then Steven wants them as well. Neither Arlo nor Steven accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Arlo is a rather large boy who weighs 76 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Arlo and Steven were held for the three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this awesome pair, so they are now available for adoption. Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, so we believe that it is in their best interest to be adopted together. Arlo was neutered on June 10, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for spending time with Arlo for these updated photos late in the afternoon on September 28, 2025. Arlo was a natural for the camera lens and flashed his beautiful smile like a pro. Since Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, Angel and HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard teamed up to walk both boys from their 'apartment' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated. Arlo and Steven are ready to find a fabulous home (together of course). Since both boys have been neutered, they could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.
