Story
Doofy is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on March 9, 2025 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked him up on Tadpole Run Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Doofy was wearing a collar with a Wood County WV dog tag and a rabies vaccination tag, so we are hopeful that he will be reclaimed. Doofy has a shiny black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Doofy appeared to have a friendly, outgoing personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren spent time with him in the lobby of our shelter for his quick photo session shortly after his arrival on March 9th. This big boy weighs 85 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Doofy would preferred to have enjoyed a walk/photo session outside since it was a nice sunny afternoon. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Doofy will be held for 14 days since he had dog tags which will enable us to locate his owner. We hope that his owner (or someone familiar with Doofy) will see his Facebook photos and know that he is safely in our shelter and would love to go home. Doofy is NOT good with other dogs. He is ok with cats except that he plays rough with them. Doofy was neutered on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. He weighed 84 lbs that day. UPDATE: Doofy went home with a foster family on March 19, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Unfortunately, Doofy was returned to HSOV by his foster family on March 21st 2026 because Doofy is NOT good with other dogs.

Story
Freddie is a cute 2-year old male Labrador Retriever/Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on October 4, 2024 by an individual who found him on Warner Street in Marietta Ohio. Freddie was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Freddie has a beautifully-marked black/white coat, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy/semi-erect ears. This sweet boy had a friendly, rather demure, personality. Freddie is a medium-sized dog who weighed 44.7 lbs when he entered our shelter, and he walked well on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Freddie was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Freddie was not reclaimed, he was neutered on January 13, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Freddie went home with a foster family on February 1, 2025, but he was returned to HSOV on February 7, 2025 after Freddie tested positive for Lyme disease, Freddie went home with another foster family on March 28, 2025 who dearly loved this little guy and had planned to adopt him if all went well. Unfortunately, Freddie was returned by his foster family on October 7, 2025 and came back into our shelter following a confrontation with a neighborhood dog who was near the front of their home (and Freddie was possibly thinking that he was protecting his family). His foster family noted that Freddie was a friendly boy, and he had been great with two dogs and two cats who had shared his home. Freddie is housetrained. Like many dogs, Freddie does not like baths. Freddie likes car rides, being outdoors, and playing fetch. He is still working on learning basic commands. Freddie has participated in several off-site HSOV events and enjoyed those outings. These updated photos of Freddie were taken on November 13, 2025 when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard accompanied him outdoors late in the afternoon for a short walk and a photo session in the autumn leaves. This little sweetheart was a pushover for attention that afternoon. Freddie would love to find an appropriate home with someone to love and spoil him to his heart's content. Freddie went home with a foster family late this afternoon (January 21, 2026) who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Freddie came back to HSOV from his foster home on February 10, 2026 since he was exhibiting too much playful puppy-like behavior. So Freddie is once again looking for the perfect home~

Story
Arlo is a handsome 3-year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Echo Valley Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Arlo was accompanied by his best friend Steven (an adult American Staffordshire Terrier) who is also in our shelter. Neither of these boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Arlo has a yellow/tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate brown nose, and large floppy ears which frame his face. This sweet boy has a gentle, easygoing personality. Arlo enjoys attention and being petted by our kennel techs and volunteers. Arlo and his best friend (Steven) are continuing to enjoy their own 'bachelor's pad' in our Safe Haven Building where they have the freedom of not being in a kennel. Interestingly, Arlo enjoys being petted and when Steven sees Arlo getting pets .. then Steven wants them as well. Neither Arlo nor Steven accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Arlo is a rather large boy who weighs 76 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Arlo and Steven were held for the three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this awesome pair, so they are now available for adoption. Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, so we believe that it is in their best interest to be adopted together. Arlo was neutered on June 10, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for spending time with Arlo for these updated photos late in the afternoon on September 28, 2025. Arlo was a natural for the camera lens and flashed his beautiful smile like a pro. Since Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, Angel and HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard teamed up to walk both boys from their 'apartment' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated. Arlo and Steven are ready to find a fabulous home (together of course). Since both boys have been neutered, they could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.
