Story
Doofy is a magnificent 2-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on March 9, 2025 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked him up on Tadpole Run Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Doofy was wearing a collar with a Wood County WV dog tag and a rabies vaccination tag, so we are hopeful that he will be reclaimed. Doofy has a shiny black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Doofy appeared to have a friendly, outgoing personality when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren spent time with him in the lobby of our shelter for his quick photo session shortly after his arrival on March 9th. This big boy weighs 85 lbs and was fairly strong on a leash. Doofy would preferred to have enjoyed a walk/photo session outside since it was a nice sunny afternoon. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Doofy will be held for 14 days since he had dog tags which will enable us to locate his owner. We hope that his owner (or someone familiar with Doofy) will see his Facebook photos and know that he is safely in our shelter and would love to go home. Doofy is NOT good with other dogs. He is ok with cats except that he plays rough with them. Doofy was neutered on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. He weighed 84 lbs that day.

Story
Jax is a handsome male (possible Labrador Retriever/American Pit Bull Terrier mix) puppy who made his debut into the world on December 3, 2025 when his beautiful mother (Mavis) gave birth to Jax and his nine brothers/sisters. Momma Mavis had been brought to the HSOV on November 25, 2025 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Main Street in Belpre Ohio in the vicinity of McHappy's Bake Shoppe. Mavis was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Mavis was very pregnant when she entered our shelter, and we knew that she would soon be giving birth to several puppies based upon her size. Fortunately for Mavis, one of our wonderful foster mothers offered her the hospitality of a temporary home later in the day on November 25th so that Mavis would have a safe comfortable haven to give birth and to raise her babies. Jax has a sleek black coat with a vertical white stripe on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a splash of white on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. Jax and his siblings have affectionate, super playful personalities. Mavis returned to our shelter on February 4th since her puppies were fully weaned, and their foster mother continues to care for her puppies. These photos of Jax were taken on February 21st 2026 while he posed for some professional-looking portraits and gave us his cool, calm, and collected renditions of his classic "The Name is Bond.. James Bond" impersonations complete with facial expressions. HSOV is currently accepting adoption applications for Jax and several of his siblings. Jax will be neutered before being officially adopted by his new family. He could be fostered-to-adopt while he is awaiting his neuter appointment with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

Pontoon is a handsome 1-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on June 21, 2025 after he was found in the Marietta Ohio area (exact location not provided). Pontoon was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking young man has a sleek black short smooth coat, a long curled tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a black/chocolate brown nose, and large floppy ears. Pontoon's coat has a subtle chocolate brown sheen when he is in the bright sunlight. These photos of Pontoon were taken on June 28, 2025 when HSOV Kennel Tech Emma Dahlgren accompanied him outdoors for his 'glamour pictures' late that afternoon. Pontoon posed like a Westminster Show Dog for most of his publicity photos .. And posed for some other cute poses when he was mesmerized by some of our shelter mascot kitties who were watching him from a distance. Pontoon weighs approximately 50 lbs. Like most of our dogs who have been in a small kennel during the day/night, Pontoon was happy to enjoy out-of-kennel time and was very energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Pontoon was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for him. Pontoon will be neutered before being adopted by his new family. He could be fostered while he is awaiting that surgery with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

Alaska was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This pretty girl has a black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and a lovely face with dark brown eyes, a dusting of white on her muzzle, and floppy ears. Alaska is a fairly big dog who weighs 83 lbs, and she has already been spayed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Alaska will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Story
Arlo is a handsome 3-year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Echo Valley Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Arlo was accompanied by his best friend Steven (an adult American Staffordshire Terrier) who is also in our shelter. Neither of these boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Arlo has a yellow/tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate brown nose, and large floppy ears which frame his face. This sweet boy has a gentle, easygoing personality. Arlo enjoys attention and being petted by our kennel techs and volunteers. Arlo and his best friend (Steven) are continuing to enjoy their own 'bachelor's pad' in our Safe Haven Building where they have the freedom of not being in a kennel. Interestingly, Arlo enjoys being petted and when Steven sees Arlo getting pets .. then Steven wants them as well. Neither Arlo nor Steven accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Arlo is a rather large boy who weighs 76 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Arlo and Steven were held for the three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this awesome pair, so they are now available for adoption. Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, so we believe that it is in their best interest to be adopted together. Arlo was neutered on June 10, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for spending time with Arlo for these updated photos late in the afternoon on September 28, 2025. Arlo was a natural for the camera lens and flashed his beautiful smile like a pro. Since Arlo and Steven are very bonded with each other, Angel and HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard teamed up to walk both boys from their 'apartment' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated. Arlo and Steven are ready to find a fabulous home (together of course). Since both boys have been neutered, they could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

Story
Delta is a beautiful 2-year old female German Shorthaired Pointer who was brought to the HSOV and placed in an outdoor kennel after closing hours on February 14, 2026. Delta was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This little beauty has a chocolate brown/liver-colored coat with brown/liver-and-white ticking, a short docked tail, and a classic German Shorthaired Pointer face with dark brown eyes, a narrow white stripe on her muzzle, a brown/liver-colored nose, and large floppy ears. Delta has a happy, outgoing personality and was full of playful energy when HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn Moore accompanied her for outdoor pictures on February 14th. Delta demonstrated her pointing skills several times during her photo session (smile). Delta appears to be housetrained since she quickly 'took care of business' as soon as she stepped into a grassy area and before she posed for her glamour pictures. Delta has a slim build. She was energetic on a leash and loved running laps around HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Moore. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Delta will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. If she is not reclaimed, we will accept HSOV adoption applications for Delta beginning on February 18, 2026. Delta will be spayed before being officially adopted (a requirement for HSOV dog/cat adoptions to be finalized). Update: Delta was spayed on February 23, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine.
