Story
Sheldon is a handsome 3-1/2 year old male Chocolate Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 22, 2022 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on State Route 555 in the Cutler Ohio area. Sheldon was wearing an orange/silver reflective collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. Sheldon has a chocolate brown short smooth coat with a white bib on his neck/chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with expressive brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears . Sheldon has a friendly, easygoing personality and enjoyed his 15-minutes of fame when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan spent time with him for his outdoor photo session. There was an after-hours dog walk in progress, and Sheldon was very curious about other dogs that he saw being walked in the distant and seemed to want to make their acquaintance. He also 'perked up' when he saw cars being driven into the parking lot as though he expected his owner to coming to look for him. Sheldon appears to be housetrained. Sheldon weighs 59.4 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. He has a slim trim physique and could easily carry a few more pounds. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Sheldon was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Sheldon was not reclaimed, he was neutered on January 11, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine. Sheldon was adopted on March 25, 2023 but was returned a week or so later because he was nervous around babies (and perhaps with toddlers/small children) and shows his fear by growling, so we recommend that Sheldon be placed in a home with adults or older children. He is truly a fantastic lovable dog who will be a terrific companion with his new family. We've also learned that Sheldon does NOT do well with cats, so he should not be placed in a home where he would have contact with them. Sheldon appears to do ok with most other dogs.

Story
Oatmeal is a handsome 3-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV overnight on September 19, 2023 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked him up on State Route 7 in the Belpre Ohio area. Oatmeal was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking guy has a black short smooth coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a sweet (rather mischievous-looking) face with expressive brown eyes, a splash of white on his slender muzzle, and short floppy ears. Oatmeal is a happy boy with an outgoing personality. He was head-over-heels in love with HSOV Kennel Tech Aubrey Hall who helped him with his photo session late in the afternoon on September 22, 2023. Oatmeal was full of playful energy. He enjoyed running laps around Aubrey and demonstrating his athletic ability to impress Aubrey. Oatmeal excels in high jumping (who needs a trampoline when you have natural talent?) But what Oatmeal enjoyed most of all was the attention which Aubrey bestowed upon him .. He literally hugged her in return for her kindness. Oatmeal also has a cute sense of humor and teasingly stuck his tongue out in several of his close-up facial photos. Oatmeal weighs 47 lbs and could easily gain a few pounds to fill out his slim trim physique. Oatmeal doesn't appear to have had any leash training and would benefit of a little help to stay focused on the task at hand. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Oatmeal was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him .. But nobody called or came looking for this little lovebug. UPDATE: Oatmeal was neutered on November 14, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine. Oatmeal was adopted on February 2, 2024 but came back to HSOV on February 22, 2024 and is looking for a terrific home with an adult family that he would not have to share with children. Oatmeal is good cats and other dogs, but he does not do well with children.

Story
Sheldon is a handsome male Chocolate Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was originally brought to the HSOV on November 22, 2022 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on State Route 555 in the Cutler Ohio area. Sheldon was wearing an orange/silver reflective collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. Sheldon has a luscious dark chocolate brown short smooth coat with snow white markings on his neck/chest/belly, a long tail, and an adorable face with expressive brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears . Sheldon appears to be housetrained. Since Sheldon was not reclaimed, he was neutered on January 11, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine. He is truly a fantastic lovable dog who will be a terrific companion with his new family. We've also learned that Sheldon does NOT do well with cats, so he should not be placed in a home where he would have contact with them. Sheldon has become a favorite with our HSOV staff and volunteers. He has become a social butterfly who loves to snuggle with his people friends and enjoys 'butt rubs' and short walks. Sheldon is often seen sitting quietly on one of our outdoor benches with an HSOV volunteer and enjoying out-of-kennel time. Sheldon has gained some much-needed weight since we first met him in November 2022. He weighed 74.4 lbs on October 25, 2023 and looks fabulous. Sheldon walks gently on a leash. These updated photos of Sheldon were taken on October 20, 2023 after he had participated in our HSOV Halloween Mini-Photo Session. Sheldon had 'rocked' a cute Bumblebee/Honey Bee costume and looked adorable as a sweet honey bee. HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan accompanied Sheldon for his Halloween pictures that day, and we took the opportunity to take 'au naturale' photos that day.

Story
Blackie is an adorable 9-month old male Shepherd mix who was surrendered by his owner on November 5, 2023 along with his best friend (Timber) because their landlord would not allow the boys to stay in the rental property. Blackie has a sleek black coat with a small patch of white on his chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with expressive brown eyes, a black button nose on his slender muzzle, and large semi-erect ears. Blackie and Timber appear to be very bonded with each other and are currently sharing a kennel so that they may provide a sense of comfort/security for each other. Blackie & Timber had a lot to talk about when they were in their kennel and were a bit intimidating. They were obviously two frightened youngsters who showed their fear by putting up a brave front .. But when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan and HSOV Volunteer John Tynan spent a little time getting acquainted with them, they were happy to accompany them outdoors for their Petfinder/Facebook photos late in the afternoon on November 5, 2023. Blackie accompanied Fredley Tynan while Timber happily pranced along with John Tynan. Blackie weighs 51 lbs and will be neutered before being adopted by his new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized. He and Timber would also be available for fostering with an approved HSOV Foster Application. Their previous owner told us that Blackie & Timber were good with the one child whom they had been around and that they were good with other dogs (but skittish around cats). They had been kept indoors and were housebroken. Blackie & Timber are being listed as a bonded pair.

Story
Sheldon is a gorgeous 4-1/2 year old male Chocolate Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was originally brought to the HSOV on November 22, 2022 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on State Route 555 in the Cutler Ohio area. Sheldon was wearing an orange/silver reflective collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. He is truly a fantastic lovable dog who will be a terrific companion with his new family. We've also learned that Sheldon does NOT do well with cats, so he should not be placed in a home where he would have contact with them. Sheldon gets along well with most other dogs. Loud noises/crowds/new people tend to frighten him. Sheldon was fostered-to-adopt on November 10, 2023 .. Although his potential adopter loved him very much, Sheldon was returned to our shelter on December 5, 2023. That individual felt that their home was not the ideal one for Sheldon since he was exhibiting severe separation anxiety issues, and the family was away from the home too much to fulfill Sheldon's need for being with his people. Sheldon tended to get into mischief (only when he was alone too long) and chew/destroy items in the home. These photos were taken on December 6, 2023 when Sheldon was spending time in our front office with his people friends and assisting shelter staff and greeting visitors .. before being returned to his former kennel. Sheldon is looking for a home (without feline friends) where he could take long walks with his family and snuggle up next to his new best friends .. and where he would not be left alone very long. If you believe you have the perfect home for Sheldon, our HSOV Kennel Techs/Staff/Volunteers would love to introduce you to this awesome dog.
