Story
Location: Calgary, Alberta// Breed: Lab mix// Age: Approx 6-7 years old// Size: 60lbs// Sex: Neutered Male// Energy Level: Medium/Low// Cats: Not known - likely no// Dogs: Yes// Kids: Older kids preferred// Adoption fee: $550// Meet Toby: Your Chill Sidekick in a Fluffy Tan Suit If serenity had four paws and a wagging tail, it would be named Toby. This 7-year-old lab mix is 60 lbs of pure soul, sunbeam naps, and quiet companionship. He’s sweet, gentle, and easy-going—a true “low-maintenance love bug.” Toby isn’t flashy. He’s not Instagram-famous. But he is that dog who will sit quietly beside you on the porch, hike happily by your side, and curl up on the couch like he’s always been there. He’s the best kind of loyal: calm, content, and never demanding. ✅ Apartment-approved (quiet, calm, non-destructive) ✅ House-trained & crate-trained ✅ Great with medium/large dogs ✅ Excellent hotel roommate (yes, really!) ✅ Photogenic (he poses for pics!) ✅ Sunbather. Snuggler. Shadow. Toby enjoys the little things—soft beds, casual strolls, warm laps—and hopes for a home that values those too. He gets along with other chill dogs, but small animals (cats, tiny dogs) rev up his curiosity too much. He’s not aggressive, just very interested. So a home without small pets would be best. He’d thrive in a home that appreciates his calm nature—maybe with older kids, a relaxed vibe, and people who love to include their dog in everyday life. He’s come a long way from his days as a stray and shelter pup. Now, he’s just waiting for his soft landing. If Toby could speak, he’d say: “I don’t need much—just someone to love and a place to call home. I promise to be your gentle, grateful companion for all the quiet moments and simple joys.” To meet Toby, submit an application on our website: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Story
This sweet girl came in with an extremely swollen face. We considered euthanizing because of so much unknown. She could hardly move and unable to get to know her personality wise and we didn’t know what was causing the swelling. Luckily the swelling started to go down and her personality started to shine. She is sweet, calm, and Neutral. She need to be further tested with dogs but so far shows no reactivity to dogs. ##2340671##

Story
Meet Kai, a 3-year-old neutered male Labrador Retriever with a soft beige coat and a big, gentle heart to match his 31kg frame. Kai came to the shelter already microchipped, but unfortunately, his previous owner did not reclaim him. He spent about a year at the training school with no place to go. Kai is a total lovebug with people—friendly, affectionate, and irresistibly charming. He adores attention from both familiar faces and strangers alike, happily leaning in for pets and even sliding between your legs just to be close. While he loves everyone, he seems to have a soft spot for men—likely from having worked closely with a male trainer—but he’s sweet and cuddly with women, too. He’s incredibly gentle with children under 13 and even allows strangers to scoop him up with an arm under his belly without hesitation. He’s quick to roll over for belly rubs, even on first meetings. Kai’s friendliness extends to other dogs as well. Whether it’s a big dog, a small one, or anyone in between, he’s quick to say hello and invite them to play. If another dog gets too rowdy or pushy, Kai simply removes himself from the situation without conflict. He’s well-mannered, listens to commands readily, and doesn’t fixate on other dogs when he’s with people—he’s all about his human companions. Even around cats on walks, Kai keeps his focus on his person. He doesn’t react much and can be tested further for cat compatibility. His energy level is moderate—he enjoys outdoor fun and activity, but once the excitement winds down, he’s perfectly happy to relax quietly. Kai is a dream on the leash. With plenty of walking experience under his belt, he doesn’t pull and walks beautifully by your side. His leash manners are impeccable. He’s not food-possessive with people or dogs and rarely barks. He’s calm and composed when crated and knows how to hop in and out of the car on his own. He also prefers to do his business outside. Kai is the perfect blend of playful, polite, and affectionate—a well-trained Labrador with so much love to give. Send in your application today through our website https://adoptmekoreanrescue.org/adoption-application/ He can arrive at Vancouver or Toronto airport and may be able to arrive at some US airports (Seattle, LA, NY, Boston etc) where we have flight volunteers.
